Wounder if a guy could use a piece of heli-coil to slip over the bar stud if he found the right combo.

Scott, As an example. I use a Large Husky mount 28" bar on my 5200. The correct dr. link count for that bar on a Husky, is 93. But on the Poulan, it was out at the end of adjustment, couldn't tighten the chain. So use a 92 link chain, that works great!

I had to buy a bag of 100 of those spacer rings and used a bunch of them and gave a bunch away and I dont have a whole lot of them left. I can see about ordering some more maybe. If your handy you can make a solid spacer for them. Its actually the best way to go as you can fit the spacer to the slot tighter.



Here is one that I did some time ago, forgive the pictures of the Echo but it would be the same deal on a Poulan as they share the same size bar studs and bar mount style.

Gregg, the 28" is the only one thats really not different. Your right about the Husky wanting 93DL but a 28" Poulan bar used 92DL to begin with so the 28" Husky bar actually uses the correct DL count. :hmm3grin2orange:

I didnt think to point out in that one picture you can see how the 93DL chain on that could have been shortend 1 drive link as the Echos share the same drive link count as the Poulans.

Funny event

Put together a 3800 from parts I had. Saw ran great but then died and wouldn't start. Pulled carb and lo and behold the part of the metering lever that hooks to the needle had broke completely off. Never have seen that before.

Well, that sure sucks! Seems like not much pressure on those for that to happen.

Had a similar occurrence once with a quadrabog on my chev van..no fun...did get it fixed right where it broke though, handy auto parts store nearby. Go to crank, smell gas, dang intake flooding with gas! Took it apart, that little spring clip that holds the float needle was just..gone! Broke, dissolved, who knows, but it wasn't there. Like one penny worth of stuff..kerflooie. Amazing how both robust and how delicate machinery can be....

And thanks for the unintended reminder, I need to search here right now before I fergit and find the appropriate lever setting for these HDBs. Picked up a rebuild kit today and will try to make a good one from the corroded one I have as a pattern to see what goes where and how, so I don't screw up...always a consideration.... and a stripped housing I got before, which is clean and in good shape.

Funny you should mention that, I just seen it a few minutes ago on the new to me PP395. But I know why mine did. I wasnt paying attention to how I was adjusting it and got a little ham fisted with it and broke it off. I really dont like the lever setup on these HDB carbs at all. There is only one certain way to bend that lever for it to work right and I forgot about it.

I originally just pulled the carb to clean out the screen as I figured it was plugged up since the filter was broken off of the fuel line.

You have to replace the whole circut plate to replace the needle lever so I found the Walbro part # 157-608 and will call the dealer to see if he can get me a half a dozen to fix 2 carbs here that need them and have a few spares. I had a brand new HDB-8 carb on the shelf I threw on the 395 for now.

Think the screen was plugged?

I have one of those S-clips that came with the bar plates from Chainsawr. On my 4000, I use that with the D176 bars right? And what size bar would I use? By that I mean bar mount.

No, the clip won't work with the Oregon D176 bar. The slot on them are smaller, and made to fit the Poulan studs. The S-Clip is to mount a Windsor bar, or I think Poulan branded sproket nose bar, that I think was made by Windsor. I never had one of those, so I'm just guessing. I think these bars also fit some Mac's also. And a few others. Its kinda hard to find the older Windsor bars that were ment to be used on the Poulans.

I was thinking of using one of those S clips to mount a 24" Homelite bar on my 245 but don't know yet if it will work. If you have an S clip be careful where you put it..I still haven't found mine.

Sure would like to get some of those colored round spacers available when you buy a Sugihara bar. At least I believe its Sugihara. Anyway they are colored for the diff. sizes.

As far as l'm concerned those s clips were made exactly for using the Homelite style mount on these saws.

Seems Windsor never made a d176 style mount so if poulan wanted to use Windsor bars the had to do something.
