Awesome

Ok this is why I took a 40 mile detour on the way home from work. She aint been babied and it shows but the shop who had it had the muffler cover off when I got there so I could look at it. The P/C are mint! It pulls like it has super compression.

Started it right up and all it seemed to need at this point was a little carb tuning. I will tear it apart for a good cleaning and inspection though.

Veryyyy nice indeed!!! I have to rebuild the carb on mine soon, as it was running a bit choppy last time out. Mark, on the top caver does yours have any mention of Canada on it? Heres its twin with a 20" Carlton.

Nice saw Mark! I have its little brother the 375 and I am really attached to it even though it is yella. I notice your trigger kind of droops like mine. Must be normal.

Al.

Long as thats all I got drooping right now, I'll call that good :msp_biggrin:

Mark,

That is a nice'un. Can't wait to see it.

Chris B.

You will!

Joe I didnt notice anything on it yet but I'll keep my eyes open. Dose yours say anything about Canada on it? Wouldnt surprise me if it did since some Poulan saws were made in Markham Canada and some of the Pioneer based Poulan Pros were made at that EMAB factory in Canada during the time frame that these were produced.

I just went and tried the start this one again and it was bogging bad and didnt want to run so I checked and it was about out of gas and the filter was rolling around in the bottom. :msp_sad:

So I guess I'll have to put some lines on it and check the carb. Wonder if this has the HDB on it or the Zama? Time will tell.

Ill have to look at mine, like yours I got it as a "runner" but it needs attention, nothing major though. It does have the HDB on it.
My pm 6-10 is fighting me as well. Ready to toss it off the bench!

Joe, at least if its the HDB I'll have a kit for it if needed. :)

Its been awhile since I wandered into one of the brand X saws dont know why I picked it up other then it was a cheap 70cc. Really cant blame the saw for all of it either since it was apparantly assembled by a blooming idiot before. :dizzy:

Hopefully I can get on this 395 in the next night or two, it shouldnt take much.

Mark, My 375 has a Zama C3A on it. This kit I got from Poulan. So at least they WERE available. ;)

Gregg,

I think the part number should start with 358 not 538. What else do you see?

I was thinking the color scheme was wrong, possibly a fresh paint job on at least some of the black parts.

I've since checked some other similar Craftsman listings and the saw seems correct. One of these days I'll learn to quit turning my thinking out loud into written words .

I wasn't sure about the color scheme, seemed to have too much black in it. I have a saw about like it but mine's a Poulan so the color is black and green. The clutch cover on mine is green, I figured that Craftsman cover should be gray.

That was my first impression, too many black parts possibly meaning replaced &/or repainted parts, but now I'm not so sure  :dizzy:.

walbro HDB

Working on my third 3400 and the carb on this one is dismal beyond belief. It isn't dirty, it is corroded. I tried to clean it and use it but yech. About two dozen pulls and no smell of gas yet. I see mix getting sucked up the line and to the inlet nipple, but nothing after that. Safe to say this thing ain't letting no fuel through anytime soon. (brand new OEM line, vent, used duckbill and grommet, used but seems pretty fair and I cleaned it out filter)

I don't own an ultrasonic and did the best I could with a can of carb spray and disassembly.

Question, do any of the HDB carbs fit and work? Or should I stick with the 8, or what? I've noticed several different ones advertised, but I would rather ask you guys who have done a lot of them first. Plus any other advice of course.

thanks in advance!

I would pull a known working carb off one of your other saws, and try that. Least it would tell you if its the carb or not. I would do that or change to a new fuel filter, or both.

8 is the set up for the carb. Any HDB should work, you may have to swap shafts keep the correct ends for the 3400 set-up.

I don't know you guys have seen the recent thread asking about the 5020. There's a couple good laughs in there reading some guys' opinions of the saw.

Yeah,

Being the smartazz that I am, I had to drop in and shake the tree a little!

How stupid can a guy be?
"I've never used or even seen one but it is just junk like everything else they make!"
Gimme a break!:dizzy:

Thanks for the replies on my carb question guys! I'll try that swapping out a known good carb idea (was contemplating that anyway, def have strong good spark), but that will still leave me one good carb shy. Really, this one is corroded, I don't think it is worth trying to repair, seeing as how I have cheap access to a box 0 carbs in town at the dealers. Don't even think it would be worth trying in an ultrasonic. Dirt you can clean, corrosion is lost material, meaning it will never be tight, etc,. I might have to scrounge a d176 bar, too, the last one I have is worse than that carb, just a hunk of rust, but we'll see. I might soak it in diesel or something for a week, see what happens. Most likely I can get one of those cheap too, same dealer junk pile. What he *doesn't* have is a d176 in anything decent size, like a 24" or larger.

As soon as that third 3400 is done (and having done two little macs this week, one runs, one runs like new I guess) I can start on a craftsman top handle I just got. That should be a nice change of pace.
