I only took the cover off. The pump is still on the case. I'll do that next. Your pdf's give me confidence to go farther now. I do see their in no pushrod boot hence all the trash in there. I have plenty of foam around here. I do think I either lost (doubtful as I am very anal\careful) or the pintle button is gone, all I see is the spring ??? I will get further into it later. Thanks for the pdf's and info.

EDIT: wrong the pintle is not missing, I was looking at the diagram wrong. Their is a small spring below the pintle button and spring that goes into a small hole, next to another small hole, does anything like a check ball or something belong on top next to the diaphragm? Sorry if my wording is not technical.

meh. repped ya', but I'm sickened by your luck a little bit :/

don't see the 25's around here at all. I'll have to make an effort to seek one out... s25a sounds like it has lots of respect here.

If I see another one I'll capture it and send it off to ya. The guy I got this one from said he had 2 of them, but couldn't find this one when the other guy came, lol. So I got the one with the case and manual.

I do agree, I LOVE my 362 for some of the large trees I have to deal with, but I always go back to my green saws. I would like to get hold of a Makita to do the big bore build on and to port the hell out of. Dad had a Mac and I had a Lombard from the 50's growing up so old chain arn ain't new to me.

Sure do, Mark! Email me what you need + shipping. One weakness of this style of saw (I've seen more than one like this) is a crack in the case at the bar mount. Might be because the bar and side cover aren't lined up properly when tightened down. Leaks bar oil through the crack. Got a bunch of green ones but the yellow ones are harder to find.

Steve, I'll get er thrown in a box tomorrow and get it heading your way soon. Glad you could use it.

You lost me there. There is only the spring under the pintle. The check valves are in the small holes and are non serviceable as far as I know.

Strange...I don't see it in the pdf diagrams either but there is a tiny spring protruding a little out of one of those holes (right one) at the bottom left of the pump. I thought maybe something belonged on the top of that spring. I'll try to take a photo of it tomorrow. I do however think I found the problem. The pintle rod is getting stuck as it plunges inward. The spring does not push it back out. I'm sure this has to be it. I'll get back on it tomorrow as I'm done for the day. Thanks!

BTW: The last owner had used motor oil in it, burnt motor oil at that. My grandfather used to also use old oil as bar oil. I don't but you think its ok or will hurt the pump in any way?

Uh, Oh, that dont sound good at all if the spring is hanging out of one of the check valve holes.. They wont work like that.

You may have to find another pump.

OK well :censored:, I went back out to the shop and snapped this to show you. I don't want to waste any more time on it if its shot.

I've got one if you're interested.

In my attempt to obtain one of each brand of chainsaw, and on my trip to get said Makita today, I also came home with this.

Nice Poulmar Steve. Since that's not really a Poulan (and your aim was to get a Poulan saw)..........................I'll trade you a brand spankin' new Wild Thing for that old wreck. Just let me make a quick run to the wally world. What a guy eh?:D

:msp_mad:I didn't do it, I found it that way, that's my story and I'm stickin to it...no really it looked like something was missing. That explains that. I do have another pump in a craftsman I just got that turned out scored. I was hoping to get it running but I figured it might become a parts saw. Do you have a pump you want to part with? Thanks for the help. I'll go at it again tomorrow.

Naw, I dont have any to part with. In fact I think I only have one extra and have about 6 of those saws that use them if you know what I mean.

There not hard to find though.

Wendell, that is one fine looking old Poulan 6000. Being a Dolmar in no way dimishes its desirability - I love Dollies too.
Mark, thanks for posting those PDF's from the 3400 shop manual. I always save them to my Poulan folder when you do.

Who has the best deal on a roll of fuel line? All these poulans seem to take the same and buying it by the foot locally is getting spendy.

I was doing the same thing, then asked my local dealer for a roll price. He came back with 30 bucks a 50 ft roll for tygon. Might be worth a try. Actually, once we settled on a price I asked for 25 ft for $15 and got it:) I have a good dealer. :msp_thumbup:

Hey all,

I have a chance to purchase a factory refurbished poulan pro 4218av for 99 dollars. Was wondering if that model is a good model to get for the price or should I look for a different on

Thanks
William

Factory refurb with a warranty is OK, but be prepared for doing the final tuning yourself, I wouldn't completely trust it even refurbed. Do a search here on correct carb tuning. Not sure on that model but it's around 50% off new price, something like that? Doesn't seem too terrible.

And as said in...five thousand threads here...you can go used local for real cheap and do a little repairs yourself. Anything you might want to know about basic repairs is already covered here. Craigslist is a good source, just be picky and negotiate hard.

With that said, you want an instant runner to go cut wood, look up on the page and hit the classifieds button and look at the saws for sale here. You might find a pretty good saw for not much more than that 99$. Or post a "wanted to buy" post, indicate your budget, see if you get any offers. A lot of guys here just like fixing then flipping saws out, and are good at what they do. You'll see fair prices to outright good deals all the time there, any size saw.

That is a dang good retail out the door price. I already tried that here though, new parts, full retail. I am happy enough on getting deals on old junker saws and used parts. I have two diff shops in town here, both get around 2 bucks a foot. Oh well, it isn't that bad consider a foot does most saws easy.
