Man, I love all these poulans.....
The 5400 is on the bench and almost complete, I ran out of wd40 so will have to wait to finish as the pitch is really thick. This will be it for awhile until I can round up some clutch covers and starter housings, I will get them cleaned up and ready for when I do get them. I made a video of the 8500 in a piece of Hawthorne and thought the tune was close but ended up messing with it about 3/4 through the log and just ended up putting it back to where it was. I will also note that a 8 pin 3/8 on a 28 inch bar in hard wood bogs the saw down a little, but should cruiz right through the softwoods we have around here.

I will have to say this saw is a hoot to run and has to be one of the best sounding saws right up there with the 045 super.
Yeah, if I had a lathe, I could do it on an as needed basis, for you guys, but alas,my barn still has a dirt floor and I have to prioritize building a bigger shop out there before I get a lathe.

Sometimes my 3400 will start excellerating from idle. If I blip the throttle it will choke it out. Is this most likely a carb issue or something else?
Sounds like an air leak. It should probably have a good going over with new fuel lines, filter, carb gasket (and kit). May even be loose screws. I'd start with small stuff around the carb.
Scored a free 2300 cva yesterday. Simply wouldn't start or run and had a cracked handle. I tore it down last night and have never seen so much oil/sawdust cake in my life. The air filter was completely clogged. I de-caked the filter, splinted the handle, new fuel line, cleaned the muffler, and after some coaxing, got it running. Sweet! My first salvage saw! Needs a new bar though. Current bar is chipped to hell on the cutting edge. I'll flip it over for now, so it'll work
--I'll let you know, didn't work on it today, did gardening and chores....one member has told me his is out 2.5 on the H side.
I have my GF (artiste...) talked into painting it! hahaha this should be cool....pics when it happens.
Might check the crankshaft seals also.
OK, a little more playing with this thing after work. When you hold it running clutch side down is when it runs up the rpm's. If this is a leaking seal which side? Also I have a pressure/vacuum tester but I'm unsure of where you hook it up on a 3400. Help will be appreciated
Test it like you would any other saw. Block of both ports, affix your vacuum/pressure source and go. Usually the flywheel side from what I've read here, you can see the leak with a little grease. If you can't see both seals, make it so.

new pistons for WT's. i know ive seen this talked about before. the older wt's have bare cylinders and coated pistons(2375) do the newer ones(4018) have the same setup? ive finally had my 4018 toast a piston,my 2375 did several years ago. ive got new pistons for both(cheap),cani just clean up the cylinders(lite sandering) and go?
i know this is somewhat vague question im on sleep deprivation mode, lol
Hey guys, he may kill me for this, but oh well. Paul, AKA Stubnail has been MIA for a little bit, which I found odd because I sold him a saw and once I shipped it, I never heard back. He has been fighting some blood pressure problems for the last week or so. Keep him in your thoughts if you will. His posts and emails always make me chuckle, and he's a good character to have around.
Get well Stubby! At least the Paypal clearedLOL
