Hey Bob, check your PM.

I got my 4000 out and worked it out a little, only to find out I have an air leak. Looking like I messed up a crank seal when I installed them last week.

Anyone know the part number for the annular buffer that sits between top handle and the saw on the clutch side? Mine is shot and I tried gluing it to the metal bracket but it didn't hold. I used a strong contact cement but no dice. All my IPLs for the s25da don't cover the CVA model.
Bob

23596 is the number you're looking for Bob. A guy on feebay has 'em for around $20 OBO. Seems like a lot for a little rubber part. Would you like me to send you a S25-CVA IPL? Mark sent me one (and all the other XXV family IPL's and SM's) a while ago. PM me your email address.

Well I got the 5400 together and went to fire it up and nothing, somewhere in the re assemble I lost spark so I replaced the coil and nothing. When I tested this saw it had spark so somewhere I lost it. I do have another electronic ignition module so I may have to tear it down again and replace that.
I also started cleaning up the other good 8500 and found that it is in better shape than the one I have running so I may put it together first but will have to use the clutch cover and starter from my 5400. If I wasn't waiting on a 041super I would pick up a few clutch covers and a starter.

Are you certain you got a good ground when you reconnected your ground wire?

Mike

Yep, pull the muffler cover off and the boost port is directly opposite of the exhaust port. With the piston at BDC if you look through the cylinder and either it's there or not. BTW, the boost port will be an open transfer port or just a tunnel on the other side of the muffler.

Takes 5 min at the most.

Ok. Pulled muffler. Put piston at BDC and saw a port opposite the exhaust. Also saw two ports at the bottom of the cylinder for a total of three. Am I correct that this signifies its a BP? All three look alike ,just in diff. spots

well my quest to revive my 2 wild things has hit a snag. i got my first piston for my 2375,its too big, measured mine at 37mm(36cc) the one sent i believe is for the 40/42cc one. tryed it in my 4018wt(40cc) still too big. so its for a 42cc? part number530069605

well got my 4018 piston in,too small! too small even for the 36cc! part number530071833,same num for all oem 4018 saws?! plus the 4018 is a stato with transfers? cut in the piston .this new one had none?!

i found part numbers 530069605 = 42cc piston?
53006904=36cc piston i believe are for the 2375 version

i also found the number 530071408 = possible a 42cc piston?

whats going on?!

Have you taken chrome plate into account?
According to TEW parts look up, 530069605 is original # for 42cc LE piston, now been superceeded to 530071408...this # is what I got for my 2150 P/C replacement. since I bought the pair new, I lucked out. Runs like a top.

However I'm very new to all this and don't know the full effect of mix and matching chrome vs plain aluminum components. I can remember a thread with PN quoted with size differences for some engines with 5 thou difference for the same size engine with chrome.

I'm not afraid to try things so I will be boring out my dead 3400 cylinder and putting a chrome 3.7 piston in it...or even a 3.9, but I will have to research what will work and if I have to port the cylinder and if the carb will flow enough.

sounds like you coulda pinched the ground wire or otherwise grounded it.

got one of these today what is it?

im pretty sure its not poulan is it???? is it a roper??? mine is in ruff shape but has the massive compression ... it got dark by the time i got home so i dont know waht the piston looks like but man it sure feels strong no spark im gussin it has points that need to be replaced or scuffed up?

I agree. Several places for that to happen as well.

Brian, whats you posting that up for? Thats a early non reinforced case model, has a later model replacement recoil on it with the wrong screws holding it on. They should be sholdered 1/4 allen head necked down to 10-24 threads on the end.

Jim that is a early style saw with the one screw on top hold down. Someone replaced the original on it.

That saw is either a 5200 or a 4200, it has to be as it has the early cover and no case reinforcments on the front. Easy way to tell is to look at the carb. The 4200 didnt have a governor on it while the 5200 did. Other wise only the piston and cyl were different.

What no model #? Is that a decomp on the top?

On the 5400, I will tear it down tomorrow and check my wiring.

No decomp on the 5200/4200 saws. The early single screw top covers have 3 pins the cover sits on. Then One single thumb screw on the top to hold it on. Looks like that one has been replaced with a couple nuts.

Just looking for stuff to contribute to the thread...this is how we received it. We know it is a 4200, but we noticed some oddities also. Was kinda hopin' you'd chime in with some commentary.

Thanks,
Brian and Tina

Here is my original post, was thinking of fixing it up for a little trimming saw, was a freebie, and had a Poulan 2000 for a long time before it was snatched.

But I think I killed it... :msp_sad:

That is cool. At this point Id do what Aaron said, scrap the crank case and put those two covers on some Micro guts. The covers are what makes that saw cool anyway. Ive seen orange Wizards but never WIZARD by Poulan.

Really? Cool! :)

It says something else on there, like Emerson company or something? I will try and get a better camera and an up close picture of the cover.

I will be on the lookout for some parts for it or another saw to put those on, as now its become sort of a mission after its mishap, and finding out its an oddity.

May just slap the covers on it and keep it as a keepsake or something.

Just hope it isn't jinxed... :dizzy:
