How many of you guys have bought or sold a running 655 in the last couple years? I have a lead on a real clean example, but I have no clue what to offer the guy without insulting him. How much were they new? I tried looking on eBay for completed listings but this saw doesn't seem to change hands very often so valuation is difficult at best. There is one in the classifieds that is listed at $475 but has been there over a month now.

Please help, oh Poulan gurus!

Well first of all is it a 655BP or the regular PP655???

The BP adds considerably to the value.
On a standard PP655 you won't be hurt at $350.00-$400.00 depending on how "clean" it actually is.
Clean is also a relative term. There was a NEAR MINT Husky 350 on the bay recently that had the worst piston scoring you could imagine.

I personally try to make it a rule to NEVER price another mans property.
Let him set the price and then you have the options of;

1)Take it
2) Leave it
3) Counter offer in accordance to the price he set.

He said it is a PP655, so I assume it is not a BP model. What is the difference? Acres only had the 655 listed, and even then, they had a photo of a 525 in its place.

Thanks a lot for the reply, Mike.

The 655BP has a different style of porting referred to as Boost Ports.
Some that I have talked to don't seem to think it actually gave a lot more power in the cut while others say it is significantly stronger.

I will say that they command a premium in value to collectors. ($100.00 or more depending)

Mike

I don't know why I didn't remember that it was for Boost Port. Thanks! I'm waiting on better pics and trying to feel out the seller a little more.

I buy a lot of stuff used. Tons of stuff actually. My Uncle restores classics and I buy VW's and chainsaws so I'm always on the prowl. I make it a rule to almost NEVER give the first #. If I do, it's always very low. Even if the guy acts insulted, Cash talks. Just say well, what's your # and work from there. I have never had someone walk away from me when I shoot them a low #. They can act insulted, but as long as you make a point to say you're really a buyer and not wasting their time, a deal can usually be struck. Just don't lie and tell them it's worthless. lol. That's insulting.

I learned long ago that the first rule of negotiation is to never be the first to throw out the number, unless it is almost insanely low.

I'm out to go split some wood now. My Fiskars is calling my name and it is nice out today.

Take a look at the Poulan saws on ebay right now. I saved some just to see what they'd bring. If I was the seller of those saws then I'd be really insulted! Not talking about the plastic ones, I'm talking about the good ones.

That's why I keep most of my Green:) If a poulan saw isn't one of the "Big Ticket" popular saws, it doesn't bring jack. I have become a big fan of the Craftsman equivalents. They bring even less. My first poulan was a 3800 that you guys gave me advice on. Still glad I bought it and use it all the time.

It does play out well for me around my home area though. All the saw shops thing if it's green... it's trash. Then I buy them for cheap.

That's what a lot of the Poulan guys do. I've gotten several of them at flea markets for 5 or 10 dollars, people think they're cheap because they say Poulan on them. So I cut wood mostly with Poulan and sell Huskys and others to make a little money so the hobby halfway pays for itself. It says something when a Homelite Super 2 brings more than a Poulan 380.

I'm not personally familiar with the 3500, but the 3750 is the same as a Poulan Pro super 380. I do have one of those. While it MIGHT be capable of running a 28" bar, that sounds like a stretch to me. I would use a 20" 3/8 .50 ga. chisel chain & bar myself.

Here is a PP 20" bar on ebay. Maybe a little pricey, but would be my recemendation for that saw.

Gregg,

Thanks Gregg I appreciate the info. I am still waiting on a reply from the owner of the saw. So if someone. Edds or wants to by the bar it fell free to do so. I would hate for it to not be bought

That's exactly how I got my 245A, mixed in with the plastic saws at a pawnshop, at a plastic saw price.

Pricey? No not really, bars have went up alot, besides thats a Power Match bar in K041 mount that you cannot buy new today. You can only buy the laminate bars in that mount in 3/8s with that 70DL count.

You guys are on notice, if one of youse dont grab it by tonight, I will.

lol, I'm not buying, all ready have one of those on my 380. Have one of the Poulan green laminated bars for it also, as a back up. So, I'm good for now on bars for the 380 type saws. They are nice bars. Have replaceable sprocket nose's on em. Although I have never had to replace a nose on a bar YET. ;)

Gregg,

Man you guys are tougher then I thought, I thought for sure I could goad one of you into buying that bar. The way bars are priced now days, I still dont think the price is all that bad for a Power Match in a mount that you cant get anymore.

I wont buy it either as I just looked and I got plenty of bars for these.

I hear ya. I can't believe I have half what I paid for the saw in a bar, chain, and sprocket for my 4000. All new Oregon stuff though, since I couldn't find an NOS or good used bar.

Nick

Yeah.. I have worn out a few bars and only recently worn out the first tip (on something bigger than a throw-away box store saw bar). I would I have benefited from a replaceable tip on a little 024avs stihl I have. The tip is worn out. I guess it does make a dif. when you grease them regularly.
