Wierd, I never heard of anyone moving "to" Illinois.

Ah, the box, sorry I cant tell ya that yet. It aint Mac yella though I'll spill that much. :D

So it must be a creamsicle then. You're always rattling on and on about how much you WISH your Pull-On saws were more like the shtills!:hmm3grin2orange:

Here's the last two saws to come to me in big brown boxes. Some Mac yella along with the Dayton orange. The rebadged 245SA arrived in a Milky Way candybar box!:D

At the moment, the Dayton seems to be having a bit of an identity crisis.:jester:

Yeah and it took me a long time to eat all those milky ways:hmm3grin2orange:

Aaron, I have not found a generic for those 245 seals yet. I assumed the FW side could be matched up and I think I did at one time but the PTO side is a very thin seal and I have not found any generic matchups for it "yet" I have been lucky to find NOS seals when I have needed them so far so have not had to do the real hard search yet.

There weren't too many exotic European cars for me to fix in Indiana.

I heard you were looking for an old 2 man saw, which usually requires a pretty big box......am I getting warm?

Sorry, I couldnt help myself, you know how I am. Sounds like you upgraded on that trade though.

So is the Dayton a runner yet? It wont mind the green cover any.

I'm excited about the Dayton Mark. Not a runner yet, but not far from it either. It really just needs a good going through. The P/C look pretty good, but there's serious carbon in there. It's JUST starting to scratch the piston at the exhaust port. You can FEEL it when turning the engine over by hand. Yuck. Going to tear it down and fix things right. There's also some mag corrosion in weird places, like on the underside of the AF cover. The bottom edges of the carb box (around the outside) are also getting fuzzy. The flywheel looks to have white fuzz too. Never seen that before.

I think this saw has sat somewhere damp for a while. The rope is actually swollen and musty smelling from moisture. It's "fuzzy" too and is hanging up the recoil. Again, just things that will be taken care of with the usual tear down and refresh. The 21" RN bar was rusty, but will likely clean up fine. May replace the tip with one of the NOS ones that Bryce has. I have an identical 21" Poulan bar (in better condition) to run on the saw in any case. The bottom of the saw and other "usual" corrosion areas on the saw are fine though. Strange.

I know I've asked you this before Mark...................but my memory and my search skills have once again failed me. Do you have the 'generic' numbers for the 306/245 crank seals? Going to need to get some for this saw, as well as another one soon. I've been searching for both Poulan part numbers on places like partsdirect, feebay, and order tree...............and have had no luck. IIRC you'd mentioned that one side is common, while the other is somewhat "special" and hard to match up.

Thanks for the info Mark. I cut the stuff I edited into my earlier post back out and posted it seperately........but you'd already answered me. I'm going to keep searching I guess. I'll do a pressure test on this saw. Maybe I'll get lucky and the seals will be fine. The other saw is the "shot" (as in .223 thru the fuel tank) 245A that Mitch posted up about earlier. Getting that project from him along with a few Homelite parts. I'd have it already if the state of fruits and nuts hadn't screwed up my tax return (but that's another iritating story). Once I have that saw I'll for sure want to put it back together with new seals. The Poulan crankseal search continues....

I have had a 16" NOS Poulan bar for a long time now and I figured it was time to mount it on a saw. I put it on my grey/black Craftsman since this saw looks almost new. Its a nice looking saw.

Theres a reason for that lack of European cars here. They cant hold up to the pot holes. :D

No your pretty far off on the 2 man guess. Not my style.

Give me a reminder this weekend and I'll dig out some parts and get some measurments again.

I was wondering about this, but haven't tried it. I wonder if it would be possible to resurrect old seals with some of the seal conditioner in a can stuff from the autoparts stores? Just throw them in and soak them for a week or something.

That stuff is basically like brake fluid. It causes seals to swell up a little(or a lot) but it will not do anything longterm for worn seals.
