80's to 1991 300SD or SDL. They are turbodiesels, but you want the turbo so the thing will get out of its own way. They are still great on fuel, and MB is one of the few manufacturers that keep producing 85-90% of the parts for the cars they have built since the 60's. If you get your pickup stuck, you can use the mountain of torque these cars put out to pull it out.

Barney, I would take an Escapade to the woods, although it would be towing a 20' trailer to make the most of the trip.

I let my neighbor run the 4000 so he could compare to his Stihl. Lets just say he was pretty speechless after he dug it into some 20" wood and really leaned on it.

Thanks for the sedan recommendations guys. I was thinking about getting one so I can start doing periodic trips to go help my elderly folks out, one state down. Dang if I want to greydog that trip all the time, and flying is just slap out. I don't want to run my old rat datsun truck that far all the time.

After Nardoo's consult, the 2775 running ok even without the flywheel key.Now i am wondering for something else.At this moment, the saw has 20" bar with .325 pitch and 7 tooth spur.I believe that this is too much for this saw.I'm thinking to replace the bar with one 20" again (i want to keep that size) but with 3/8 pitch and the 7 tooth spur with 6 tooth spur. Will this change give a little boost to the saw or i will waste my time?
I have that same saw, and with a muffler mod and properly tuned it cuts quite well. I have the 20" bar on it and it has no trouble pulling it at all - I keep reading that it can't, but it does anyway.

What chain are you running? If you still have the 33SL on it, then get a loop of 20BPX and see what you think. I eventually ground off all the shark fin bumpers on the 33SL and got it sharpened properly, but it's still barely as fast as the 20BPX.

Last OT post from me. They are a great car for long trips so if that is what you are looking to do with it, it would be a good choice. IIRC, I got about 28 mpg on the highway with mine. Not bad for a 2+ ton car. :hmm3grin2orange:

I still like rebadged Poulans....

I don't usually take pics of my hauls but I am pretty excited about this pile of junk I got yesterday. Can you see why?

My first ever Poulan 3000. Like rockinghorse droppings around here.

Good Poulan 3000 score Al.

I also spy a McCulloch Mac 15, a Partner 500, and a red chain grinder. Looks to be some very interesting McParts burried in the black crate too.

Aaron, it is always fun going through a new haul. The Mac parts might be interesting.

The grinder is Chinese but the 394 in the box is complete with excellent p/c. Some days are just good.

And how about the muffler mod on the old Stihl 07?

Crikey Al! How much of that saw didja get? Even the diehard Poulan guys have gotta give a little respect to a 797. Do I also spy a 105/125 tank/handle casting in that crate (hiding under the hardnose bar)? A 394 is a sweet score too. I noticed the 'custom' muffler on that old stihl..:D

Aaron, that tank/handle is the 797. Not sure what I will do with it - it is certainly not a complete saw. The bore looks fine so I am sure someone down under will be able to use it.

But there are lots of big old Macs around here - I get excited over Poulans!

Man. If you and I were on the same continent I'd be interested in that 797. I could probably complete it with parts I have here. There is another tank/handle/carb box casting in that Crate Al. It's towards the top. Just below the hardnose bar, and the handle is resting on the 797 tank cover. Has no AF cover on it. The handle runs parallel to the bar, and is pointing towards the camera. It is also sitting on what looks like a nice red/white XL-12SXL/XL400/XL500 series Homelite flyhweel cover.

Now THAT right there, is a dedicated parts scrounger ladies and gentlemen!!!
My hat's off to you Pard.

Aaron, that other top is from a 610 or similar by the look of it but I am certainly no expert!
The 797 has a rusty bore but a preliminary look shows all is well. I do not have time to delve further into as I have a golf game in about half an hour. (I love Saturday mornings). No carb either.

LOL. Thanks Mike. Sometimes it pays off. I've gotten really good at spotting 'hidden gold' in boxes of junk. Comes from years of flea market and gun show experience. When you opperate on a shoestring budget, you either hone your 'junk scanning' skills or you don't get nuttin'......:D

Cool. Thanks Al. Will PM you in a sec. Enjoy your golf game. No hurry on figuring out what's up with the 797. Friday afternoon here. That other handle/tank casting looks to be from an early 10-series McCulloch (2-10, 5-10, 6-10, 10-10, etc). Hard to tell for sure from the pic.

Back on track with the Poulans.

Did you guys see the large Poulan 4200/5200 parts lot listed by Angry Beavers? Somebody just put the link in the "I saw it on..." thread. That Angry Beavers guy likes throwing 'bundles' together like that. IIRC he had a HUGE 3400-4000 parts lot listed a while back.

Pro 335 without spark

Any way to test a coil on a dead 335 before I buy a new coil. Pulled the clip off the switch and still no spark at the plug gap. I hate to buy a $35 coil just to see if that's what might be the problem.

You should, weather you know it or not, if that 3000 has a good P/C on it, I'm betting you just found your new favorite 50cc saw!

A little birdie told me that the parts lot is going to Canada.

Seems you already did test it. Looks like you need a coil, but just for kicks, unplug the kill wire from the coil itself to make sure its not grounded out someplace else.
