Dumb question:

Is the new 4620 virtually the same saw as the 295? Im just curious as they look almost identical & have the same specs.

I salvaged my 4620 from the junk heap & have managed to get it running quite nicely but I still need a couple of little things here & there.

Thanks if anyone has info on this.
Cheers

Ok. I believe 1/8 ID might work as the oil filter fitting is a little under 5/32
(.156 in).OD. Actually my caliper measured the filter od at .146 in. You may have some work to get the stiffening spring on, if you intend to re-use the old one.

Do you know the OD of the nipple at the oil pump?

What size would you reccommend?

Is the stiffening spring absolutely necessary? If so, do you know where to get replacements?

2300

Can I still get rings & a cyl gasket for my 2300av. When I rebuilt this thing 15 years ago I did it on my coffee table (much to the wifes chagrin), broke one of the new rings so ground one of the old rings & used it in the bottom groove. But never did idle the way I wanted. Even so... It cut more cords of wood than I could count. Now I wanna redo it.

I have a piece of 3/16 OD Tygon fuel line and it fits snugly on the nipple end. Its barbed so it should stay on. The dia. at the base is .140 in. My guess is that the spring adds weight and stiffness to ensure the filter stays in the oil, but I'm not positive. Let me look to see if its NLA. I'll be back to you.

A 1/8 ID tygon line is fine for the oil pump pickup line. It will stay on the barb on the pump inlet.

The original wire wrap was to help act as a clamp to help hold the thin rubber lin on the pump barb and also add a little bit of stiffness to the line.

I think there mostly the same saw and the 4620 did indeed evolve from the 295.

According to the Poulan website, yes and no for the rings. No if before date code/serial #A1820001 Yes if on or after date code/serial #A1820001

Cyl gasket is still shown in stock

Now, I know its purpose. Also looks like its still available(530024677).

Thanks for the help guys. I had a whole lot of trouble trying to get the oil pump going that was on my saw when I got it, but never could get it to oil right. I finally found oil pumps for sale on Ebay, so I bought 2: In case anyone else needs one - Poulan 3400 Oil Pump

I bought some 1/8" ID 1/4" OD file line, and a duckbill valve from Calvin. Looks like I'll finally get the 3400 running like it should. Then I'm going to need some help tuning but that's for another thread.

yeah, I was going to mention that to you, but you figured it out. And, I guess I don't need that oil pump now, I found them on Ebay and got 2.

Pay alot of attention to the gasket under the pump as theres not much sealing surface under the lower left corner when looking at it.

I just pulled the pump from my Craftsman 3.7 today as it was leaking all over and the gasket had slipped when I put it on.

I cleaned the whole area and Hi Tacked the gasket to the case. I then put a small dab of blue silicone on the thin corner of the pump and it seems to not leaked a drop since.

Thanks for the Tip on the pumps but bowmasters is not getting that much from me at least untill I run out of the NOS diphragms and gaskets that I have.

I hope the 1/4" OD line is not too stiff, as I useally use some thats .117 id and .211OD. The 1/4 od maybe ok but I never tried it that thick.

Thanks for the tip. My problem was in the check valve on the inlet side. I messed it up trying to get it to work. Then I bought an inline check valve from usplastics.com and it kinda half worked. I could probably get it to work if I thinned the oil out a little, but I got this saw for free, so I don't mind putting a little into it. Plus it's got some sentimental value too.

I'm going to post my next project in the beg for manuals thread later on tonight.

5200 recoil spring discs

Anyone know a source for the two discs that go below and above the recoil spring? IPL#'s are 530042039 and 530042041. Started to reassemble my 5200 and had to replace the spring. Noticed these two parts missing. Looked at a couple Poulan suppliers and they're NLA. I may have to look on Ebay and hopefully find a recoil unit. Good luck with that!
Bob

Yeah good luck with that is right.

My wife had some off brand tupperware type bowls that were pretty flimsy and I cut some of those types of disks out of the lids to them.

PITA cutting them out but they worked ok. Wife wasn't real happy, but she got over it!.

:givebeer:

Here's my next project. I pulled on the rope a few times and it broke, I guess that's what I'll replace first.
