Yeah good luck with that is right.

My wife had some off brand tupperware type bowls that were pretty flimsy and I cut some of those types of disks out of the lids to them.

PITA cutting them out but they worked ok. Wife wasn't real happy, but she got over it!.

:givebeer:

Yea, Mark, I was thinking; " What kind of material can I use to make those discs?" Tupperware! Not a bad idea. Think I'll look in the cupboard before the "boss" wakes up.

Anyone know a source for the two discs that go below and above the recoil spring? IPL#'s are 530042039 and 530042041. Started to reassemble my 5200 and had to replace the spring. Noticed these two parts missing. Looked at a couple Poulan suppliers and they're NLA. I may have to look on Ebay and hopefully find a recoil unit. Good luck with that!

You are so blessed Bob those are the items I ran across the other day are they the ones that are brown tan in color ?

And Josh you may find a extra part in that package

Be carefull, those disc's have to be pretty thin or you will bind the recoil up.

Regular tupperware is pretty thick, thats why I used some cheap version that was much thinner plastic. Thats why the ole lady didnt get all honked off about it either.

Well I may have a bigger problem. W/o the discs, if I tighten the recoil hex bolt, I can't pull rope. Thought putting in the discs would help but UH-UH! No dice. I have to keep hex bolt real loose to work recoil. I altered two 3400 recoil discs in this process. Wonder if I replaced them with some thinner material it would work, though w/o any discs it didn't. Anyone seen this problem?

Calvin, I have no idea what color they are. Though tan/brown seems logical as that what color the 3400,3700,4000's are. All i have are the part# 530042039 and 530042041. If you have these, I'll take them.

Bob, do you have the correct recoil spring in it? That rope pully should set lower then the stud in the center of the recoil housing. Something is wrong for sure. Are you certain that everthing is clean?

Here's my next project. I pulled on the rope a few times and it broke, I guess that's what I'll replace first.

Nice saw. looks to be in good shape too. Most just need carb kit, fuel line and filters. Easy to work on as well.

Got recoil fixed. Found that one disc I thought was missing was stuck to bottom of recoil(haste makes waste). So I was doubling up the disc. Put that under spring and made a new one for over the spring. Works great! Thanks for tip.

It don't look bad at all nice find.

Yep! Good lookin saw. My latest is one just like that. I just got a carb kit for it, havn't put that in yet. I did replace the fuel line, with the help of Mark & Joe's excellent pic tutorials.. The fuel line routing is a little funky to say the least. I'm also waiting on some of those duck bill valves, for the fuel cap also.

Gregg,

Yeah, my grandfather had 3 saws, a Poulan 3400, Poulan S25DA, and a small McCullough that was yellow and black with a 13" bar. Dad bought a Stihl Farmboss and another small Stihl for limbing so he gave me the 2 Poulans. I'm thinking it'll be a good start to a 3 saw arsenal. I'll buy a big saw sometime later down the line.

lead on old & obsolete Poulan parts

I bought a brush blade from a 60 something saw & mower dealer I have dealt
with several years, thought he might have some old parts.
I bought a Poulan 4200 new from this guy.
He copied off a page from his files.
