New poulan purchases

I got a few new saws yesterday at a local shop I had not visited yet. One of them is a pp221. It is the only one with a nice cylinder, but needs a chain break. Not a bad little saw. I just put new lines on it and a few other green parts that were not up to par.

I also got a nice big poulan pro equipment sign. All for 20 bucks:)

Pics to come.

Man, with all these storms that rolled through the US, I was secretly hoping I would lose a pair of massive cottonwoods and a few large pines so I would have a reason to break out the saws. It could have been much worse, and my thoughts go out to those who were affected by the severe tornados downstate and in other states.

I have a small problem with the 2900. Got the chain back on her, but now she wants to stall at idle and when it idles down. I adjusted the low side up a little and it's a tad better but I didn't go wild with the adjustments. I think I'm missing something. Any suggestions? She runs like a bat outta hell at WOT.

Any problem with the clutch sticking just a tad?

No, it just feels like it's bogging like mad. I had the cover off and the sprocket spun free of the the clutch assembly.

Have you tried turning the L screw out a little more? If that doesn't help you can clean the carb again and re-check the inlet lever to see if maybe it's set too low. If that doesn't work you may have an intake air leak somewhere.

Finally!

I am starting my 3700. I have 3.7s, I have 3400s, 4000s even a PP395. But this the first 3700. I had a few projects ahead of this one but I finally got caught up. As far as the vitals go, its all there. Clean insides, spark and compression are right on. Only issue besides never being cleaned since it was purchased in '84 is a broken handle. No problem since I had 2 in my parts bin, I was even able to be picky since one had less glove wear than the other! Its getting the usual, along with a 4000 muffler mod, prob new 18" b/c and a good cleaning.

Mark, ever see this starter set up?

Should make you a nice saw there Joe.

I've been in the shop most of the day myself working on customer's saws. Haven't been long coming in a getting a shower (washing the Stihl off) eating supper and soon turning in.

Looks sharp there Joe. I would like to try a 3700 out sometime, but after falling in love with the 4000, I don't know if I would be left wanting just a little more. I love the 4000, but would like to at least try the other saws in that series.

And I have been working on some S25s this weekend. I have one that I am thinking about trying to port. Anybody ported one yet? If so, how did you go about making the changes.

There's really not much difference in the 3700 and the 4000. They both run REALLY well!!!

I understand that a well ported one will make an MS200 Stihl hang its head in shame!

Having a good idea how your 4000 runs:p I think you'd be impressed at how well a 3400-3800 runs. The 4000 is completely awesome, but the smaller saws hold their own with a mere 20" bar. i think the 400 shines with a 24" bar.

I was satisfied keeping my 3800 and selling the 4000.... and I Love the POWER... The best part about the 3400s, is I just got another one for free today! lol Gotta love the old mag saws.

I have yet to see a 3700. Joe... that's cool!

Here's something sad... I just stopped in at an old poulan dealer the other day. He told me he wished I had been there a year ago to buy old saw as they filled 2 dumpsters with old poulans. Every kind from big to tons of micros. I threw up a little in my mouth when he said it.

Mike, still getting around down there with all the storms that rolled through? Have you ported an S25? I'm getting silly now thinking of boring a cylinder out 3mm and having it replated after porting.

2150 Power Head

I've got a 2150 power head if any of you are interested. Probably just the coil out, it was beginning to act up the end of last summer. It has a fairly new wrap handle, haven't looked close at the bar to see what other brand of saws it may fit, so I'm holding that out until I find out. It's either gonna to go to one of you all or the trash, er I mean recycle.

Kris, I absolutely love this 4000. It pulls a 24" bar so well. I would pick up a 3400 on the cheap even though I don't need it, if I could find one.

Man,makes ya wonder how much people miss by not having internet access. I can't think of any other reason for his dumpster wealth disposal. Five minutes on ebay would have shown that guy throwing out old saws was a boneheaded move.

Funny thing about that, same thing happened to me so I asked the dealer if I could come in occasionally and buy a few parts saws from him and he said "no". So what's the deal? Would he rather they be in the landfill than to sell them to a potential customer?

These dealers know about ebay. They just can't take the time to do all the stuff they have to do to sell there and it wouldn't pay to hire some help to sell there either. I had a deal once where I would sell for someone else for half the profit and I would do all the work...that didn't work out too well for either of us! Ebay, I think might just be for retired people unless you're one of those mass merchandisers who sell Chinese junk.
