If you make a reply and click on the picture of the tree in the bubbles at the top of the reply screen you can attach it there. That will only attach it, and then you need to embed the photo also to prevent an uproar. That can be done by previewing your post, click on the link in green for the pic, right click on the http address and copy it. Then click on the small earth with a chain link in front of it in the same bubble as mentioned above and paste the link in there, and unchecked the little box below that. Yes, its more complicated than it needs to be, and some may have a simpler way, but it works for me.

Nick
I copied and saved this. I'll give it a try.

Thanks,

I have a few XXVs and micros, and if the covers have not been changed then if you look at the side label/sticker at the bottom in vary small print it should say 38/33cc , that is at the vary bottom around the edge... hope this helps.

Thanks, found it. 33cc's dang it. When I bought it was hoping it was a 38cc since it said deLuxe. Do these not have a trigger lock? It runs great but is a little hard to start unless I hold the trigger open and pull start after the first "pop". If I just flip the choke off it "pops" every pull but won't run but seconds and if I try to give it throttle it dies. If I hold the trigger open and pull it takes off screaming.

thats how i do it.

The one in the middle is the correct circut plate gasket that you need to use.

Glad you posted that picture, maybe Nick would like to show us where the welch plugs go in that one. :laugh:

3holes

if my mind aint senile its the one with 3 holes..... however i better wait till tommorow somtime and tear into one of the old ones i have and peek ... my gut says the 3 hole one but i would not want to give you wrong advice... and right now its dark and im beat and full... one of these guys will know just from looking ... i match my stuff so i dont get anything mixed up....

lol

see mark through it to ya while i was in type mode even the correct part name!!!:rock:

whats a welch plug? what does it do?

It's a dish or bowl shaped little metal plug that covers an area in the carb body where some machining is necessary for function, but then it can be covered for a long time, unless deep cleaning is needed. Think of it as a blocking off metal gasket.

I called a poulan dealer here and told him what i needed, He acted like he knew what it was. I said it is not the fuel filter. It goes on the return line. he knew what it was and ordered it. It should be here next week sometime. If it is the correct check valve i will take a pic and post it. Gotta feeling i'm gettin another fuel filter though.

Thought of a goofy project

I am not near good enough of a machinist or fabricator for this, but I think it would be a hoot to make a twin cylinder 90cc "new" poulan. Use two of those 46 cc models, common crank, weld them together somehow, I don't know, something.

I am either one coffee under, or one over, my optimal caffeine level.... ;)

I'd say at least one over......:laugh:

I just said that as a joking *** at Nick. :laugh:

Mark, ya got me with my tail between my legs. I had 4 carbs on my bench, three of which were off 25/S25s and a couple had welch plugs. Well, wouldn't you know it, one of the 25s had a wrong carb. It and the other one had welch plugs, so I assumed(made an ass out of myself) when he said Walbros that they were like mine.

I will only comment on the tech questions of the 4620 from now on.

The x-mas Poulan 4000 ran for the first time last night........I was amazed......

With some great technical input from a AS member I ended up with a Poulan 4000. Overall condition looks to be low usage and pretty clean. I'll pull the muffler and look inside when I get some time. I will need a replacement plastic clutch cover sometime in the future but the broken one will suffice for now. Should be fun to get it up and running as it does appear to have set for quite some time. I'll get some mix together and see what happens for starters....after I take the muffler off and look inside.

I finally got around to doing some cleaning and tinkering on the 4000 I bought the day before x-mas last year. Poured some mix down the carb, pulled about 6-8 times, popped a few times, then it lit off and ran smoothly............idled well and felt strong. I was amazed as this saw looked like it had sat for years and years.......but looked to be a real low usage saw!! :msp_thumbsup:

I have a question about 4000 air filters. The filter on the right came with the saw and I ended up buying the one on the left from a Ebay seller who I think is a AS member. They sure look a lot different in design..........the one on the left just doesn't look like it will seal on the mounting surfaces as well as the one that came with the saw!?? Thoughts??

Thanks to a oil preference reference from a AS member I'm enjoying the smell of the Klotz SuperTechniplate mixed 36:1 exiting thru some MM work. I studded the fastening of the muffler to the cylinder, enlarged the center holes in the "baffle" and got crazy with the drill for more muffler flow;

It will be interesting to see how strong it pulls when buried in some of this;

The filter on the left is for the 3400 and 3700 saws. The one on the right is the correct filter for the 4000 with the high top cover. You can use the 3400 and 3700 filter on the 4000 but you'll need to use the corresponding filter cover from a 3400 or 3700. The 4000 filter and cover is much better. I also think you can use larger holes on your muffler mod.

5200 fuel line replacement question............

Sooo the fuel line(s??) were toast in the 5200 I got last week.

Never had a 5200 before so I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at. Got it figured that the hole on the right is where the hose comes from the fuel tank to the carb. What is the hole on the left for??

I will now go search ' 5200 fuel line replacement ' and see what shows up!!:laugh:

*edit* - Mm has a fine thread here; http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/156629.htm

That will help me out when I have to do my 4000 fuel lines sometime in the future. Hopefully though the saw had such low usage and now that I'm running the av gas it won't be a problem anytime soon!!???

Now back to finding how to do the 5200 fuel lines...........

*2nd edit* Found this but don't know the adapter fitting has ever been found(already produced) or custom machined up for the vintage chainsaw crowd!?? I've got a great connection with a machine shop a couple of miles away that has a number of CNC lathes. Was that a 5200 you installed that fitting into!?? Mm to the white paging phone..........Mm to the white paging phone........... :msp_confused::bowdown:

Jim, I found the pictures.
