Yeah!

Looks like you ONLY won one million dollars in the lottery instead of the 5 million "Grand" prize!!!LOL

Ya still got a great saw!

Mike

I agree guys. It really cut well as is. I don't want you to think I'm disappointed in the performance but a 3700 would have been nice.

Looking forward to getting it fixed up.

While I'm waiting for parts I would like to clean out the chain oiler. The manual works but I'm not so sure about the auto oiler. Any tips as to what I should do to clean it out?

Thanks

Al,
Here's your saws twin. Must have been separated at birth.:msp_thumbup: And by many miles!!

Gregg,

Gregg, that is a mighty fine looking 3400 - in way better condition than mine. I do love the Aussie GB bar though.
Pity the original banana bars are only one sided as I really like the look of them. Love to get something like Homellitejim (above) has but nothing like that in Oz.
Day off today and the sun is shining. Think I will go and fuel up an old green saw and cut some firewood.

Al.

Poulan2300/Craftsman 2.3/38

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to make one saw out of two piles of parts and have a couple of questions;

1. It looks like a standard Poulan bar will fit and I do have a spare but only a 16" I was thinking a 12" might be more suited to this saw.

2. The Walbro WT carb was missing the pump cover so I scrounged one from a spare WT but the air cover won't fit due to the idle adjustment screw. See pics . Did the proper carb have a different idle adjustment set up? I'm guessing the Poulans would have the same issues.

View attachment 240839View attachment 240840View attachment 240841 Not sure how to get these to open in the post.

Third pic includes what came with one of the Craftsman saws.

3. Missing a couple of body screws which should be easy to replace.

4. It has spark, ran with fuel in spark plug hole. Piston and cylinder look good. There seems to be some good vibes about this series of saws so hopefully worth fixing up. I could part out the left over parts.

This is such a great site for the newbie.

...

if your carb is a WT-4 or WT-20 (from the 1800 and 2000 saws) the idle adjustment screw is much smaller and is in a vertical orientation. it adjusts the throttle by direct up-and-down contact rather than by wedging (as shown in your pic)

It might be cool to drill out that air filter cover to accommodate that idle screw so you can adjust without removing cover.

A 16" bar and chain will be just fine. Some of them come with 18". As for drilling out the airbox cover, I wouldn't do it, just get the adjustments close before you put the cover on it. That's a great starter saw, easy to work on anything on it.

Poulan mystry

Don't you worry about the 16" bar and chain.
You are going to find that the saw will pull it with authority!!!

Mike

Hi Mike glad to see you back to good health. This Craftsman has exactly the same piston as the poulan 2550t that I replaced and then seized. Still don't know what that was about. Too many projects and nothing is getting finished!

Yup Wiggs, a real runner. Were you having oiler problems? Looked like you were hitting that manual oiler pretty steady?
Bob

The saw had been COMPLETELY disassembled and restified from the crank up.
The oil hadn't ever been pumped up to the bar when he made the vid.

I had one of those sometime back that someone did just that to it. I wondered who the fool was that done that to it and marvelled at the thought of them not realiseing that they defeated the air filter completely when they did it.

No offense, but think about it .
