Palmer, i agree with your statement, I enjoy fixing up broken small engine equipment and turning for a small profit. i charge $40 an hr to fix plus parts. that is where i usually get my asking price. i stay away from E-bay and only sell locally. if i don not get what i am asking for than i keep it. Someone who knows what these saws are and appreciates them will come along one day.

Locally we have several people selling chainsaws and not much market, Craigslist goes out to the general area and expands the buying public some but ebay has sales nationwide but charges a fee for their services. I use ebay and Craigslist but hardly ever use Craigslist to sell because of the crackpots on it that ask a million questions but never buy. We have another site called Indiana Free Ads that we can use and I have.

Picked up another green turd today

I feel like the cat that swallowed the canary today.

I'm impressed by my two 3400's so I thought I'd get another Poulan if the right one came up.
I found this 5200 and got it for the asking price of $75

It starts and rev's up.
The piston and cylinder look good.
Compression is at 170 lbs
It came with a 20" bar and good chain which is the right size for what I do.
The air filter is pooched but I will fix that one up.
I'm going to pressure and vac test it, put in a carb kit and new fuel, vent lines & filter. It needs a few small odds and ends that I can fabricate.
The spur sprocket is in fair condition and I'm gong to see if I can get a rim sprocket for it.
I need to make a spike for it.

I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks for turning me on to the these saws.

The pull of Green Fever can be just as bad as Yellow Fever. That is one nice find! Congrats!

Nice find & price, Tim! That has to be one of the coolest, maybe the coolest ;), factory mufflers ever.

Oh yeaahhhh .... :msp_thumbup:

Thanks guys. I am looking so forward to getting this thing going.

You should be .. there's quite a bit of power in a relatively small (put it next to an 066 or a 372XP) powerhead. A real animal!

Was that the one for sale on Kijiji in Midland? I thought about it but was too far to drive for me, in Huntsville.

Looks like a good one!

This saw has an HS-168A carb instead of the HS-176 A. Is that unusual?

I think the 168 is on the 4200. The saw has a 52.5 mm bore so it is 5200.

Unusal? Not sure about that but its not the correct one. The 168 is for a 4200 but it is actually the same exact carb except it dont have the governor built into it. It will be fine, nothing to worry about at all.

That is a nice find on that 5200 no doubt. If your going to cut your own spike, I can maybe make a scan of a original to send to you for a pattern. You will probably have to weld the upper mounting bolt hole to it though.

I always use a 2 piece fuel line setup on these since the original thin wall 3/16 fuel line is not available anymore. I still have some of the fittings that Karl made up for them.

I see yours has the later improved recoil on it and thats good but make sure its cleaned and lubricated before you put the saw into much use.

Sprockets are all over ebay for these, so you know, there the same for the 306/245 saws as well.

I was going to look for some 5/16 OD X 3/16 ID fuel line for it. The saw has 1/4 on it which is loose.

If you have a scan of the spike that would be great. I have made a few and usually make a mock one up out of something like thin aluminum and use that for a pattern.

I found a few sprockets so I will get one when I order the carb kit.

Thanks for your input. It is always appreciated that you share your knowledge.

The 5/16" OD is a ##### to try to get through the hole in the tank and then is not very flexable inside the tank unless you got a 5lb fuel filter.

I like the 2 piece setup lots better with the 1/8x3/16 inside the tank and the 5/16OD from the tank to the carb.

Sweet deal, that's a great looking / lower usage saw!! Love the exhaust design!!

I wish I could have found my 5200 in that good of condition(running with good B&C). However I'm just happy to have it and it should be a easy fix project.

redunshee, what would you think is a fair price for one of your S25's? do you use them regularly? for work? can you send a few pics? i am always looking to see nice old Poulans and you have lots. Thanks Acornhill.

Well, I'd say a fair price,so far as my saws is concerned, is less than $100.00. I don't consider my time as a price factor, however. They have all been torn down and rebuilt so they run well. No I don't run them much. Actually hardly at all. Some are in cosmetically good condition, some very good. Even bought a chainbrake for one as a lark. Don't get me wrong. I hope you get what you are asking for them. I just see some guys on Ebay asking unreasonable prices. Saw one guy asking $250 for a 3400, where there is a real nice one now on Ebay, with a case, that is $99.00. PLus this is a relisting at the same price. If I didn't have 3, I'd jump on it.

I've been to the flea markets, farm auctions, and every other kind of sale around southern and central Indiana and never did see one of the 5200s for sale.

I know that feeling! I was very lucky to find a 5400 about a 30 minute drive from me, and I even waited a few days before responding to the Craig's List ad :msp_ohmy:. Fortunately the seller didn't list it as a 5400, & the photos he used made the saw hard to ID, I wasn't sure what it was until I saw it in person.
