Since I don't know, is the 405 a Pioneer and if it is, which Pioneer is it based on?

To raise the old Poulan rep I think I'll tell my riding buddies that my 3400 and 5200 are 34 and 52 cc's respectively. That should open their eyes.

Don't do it!!!

That will just mean there will be two more out there to bid against!!!!!;)

"Hey, Joe, I'll bet you a 12 pack that my old 52cc 5200 can out cut your MS361. Jeez, man, you can't lose, it's a Poulan versus a Stihl." ;)

The guy I got the 405 from said he thought it was 52cc. I didnt bother to tell him that its 65cc.
So you know the 405 is based on a Pioneer P-42 as far as I know. Arrowhead told me he thinks the 405 PLUS should have a third transfer port that the regular 405 didnt have. Since this one has black handles it should be a later model.

I did get a chance to go over it a bit today and it checks out pretty good. Runs great but I didnt have a chance to cut with it.

The saw has the original bar on it but it is .058 gauge so I didnt have a chain for it but I slapped this 24" Poulan Pro hardnose on it for now. Heck I might just leave it on it.

The 4620 got a work over today as well. Got cleaned up, and I modified the muffler as well as the chain adjuster to do away with the tooless adjuster. Yeah I know I could have bought a new cover but this didnt cost anything this way.

The air filter was rough so it got reskinned with some new max flow material and I swapped out the 20" chicom bar and chain for a Tiawan 16" bar with a USA made Oregon 20lpx chain. It runs really well and expect it to be a light saber for limbing and small bucking. I know it sure has good acceleration.

Three in a row

Picked up another Craftsman/Poulan late model plastic saw and just like the first two I got, wouldn't run. The guy gave me the saw and said he couldn't get it to start. I told him I knew what probably was wrong with it. Took the top cover off and sure enough it had new fuel lines. I don't know why but nobody seems to get the lines in the right place. I went ahead and put the lines where they usually go and tried for a long time and still couldn't get it to run for very long. Next day went out to take another look and found that in the gas tank where I didn't look before they had the fuel filter on the vent line and left the gas line hanging from the top of the tank about 1 inch so the line didn't reach the fuel. I re-did the lines and it runs pretty good for what it is. It's just a 2.2 but should be good for trimming and such.

They came both ways. Both of mine are type 1 I believe. Both have closed port. I think Mark knows the details about which ones are open/closed.

I just know a few rumors, nothing concrete yet. I did try to buy a 325 type II a short time back but dont know what the heck happend on that deal. I wanted to find out for sure myself.

306a

I was messing around with my 306A last night, modifying another socket so I can remove the clutch. I had ordered a new sprocket and was putting it on. The saw runs great by the way and I am just getting it to where I want it so I can use it some. But I decided to pull the muffler to see if it had a spark arrestor in it and wow was I surprised to see the size of the exhaust port. No wonder these things run good, that exhaust port is pretty good size considering the CC of the engine. The saw is very snappy with the throttle but I have not put it in wood yet. Not having any experience with these I was really surprised. Once again this saw lives up to its reputation.
