Really is strange as to what turns up missing on a junk pile saw.:msp_confused:

Poulan GTG

:ices_rofl: I'm glad somebody is keeping track of the days to go... I know time is slipping away to get things ready to go. Been working this past week on getting the site cleaned up and wood in place. Nothing like waiting till the last minute.:dizzy:

I managed to get those 3 big HEAVY Red Oak logs hauled up to the site and in place. Was a tricky operation, with the front tires of the old 5000 Ford dangling 4ft. off the ground. LOL
Resorted to half lifting and half dragging them. Then some comical manuvering to get them lifted and placed. That tree was alive, so lot O weight in them logs.

Got a variety of wood to excersize saws on. Some Red & White Oak that was left from last year, still pretty decent shape. Got a few smaller Hickory, Basswood, also. Was planning to make some square cants, but don't know if I'll get that done or not. If not, I guess those that want to race, will have to use round wood. LOL

Been going back and forth between cutting and splitting firewood, and gettin stuff ready for the GTG. And of course all of lifes other distractions that come up. Lost the brakes on the pickup. Had to make a new line from master cylinder to rear axel. Jury duty!! :dizzy: There was a big wasted day! Didn't get out of there till after 10:00 pm one day last week. But things are still comming together.

Gregg,

Great! My cover stops before the muffler.

EZRYDER,
I found another pic of my PP S25DA, Shows the right side cover.
A lot of the yellow Poulan Pro saws will usually have a date on a tag somewhere on them. The older green Poulan saws, not so much. Best you can do is, usually narrow it down to within a couple years or so. At least some of the smarter fellows here can.:msp_thumbup:

Gregg,

I would like to know what the DA stands for. Maybe "Ducks Ass" over the muffler??? There must be another reason for the letters but we will probably never know unless we get an old former Poulan employee to join up and tell us@#@#@#?.
About ten years ago, I was curious about the age of my mother-in law's vintage commercial singer sewing machine that she used every day. I went on the singer website and found a database with manufacture dates and factory built in by serial #!. They were scanned typewritten documents (by an actual typewriter, correctape and all). It turns out that her machine was made in a New Jersey plant (exact location specified) in 1956. Maybe it was because it was commercial and the company still exists but they did make millions of them which were used in most sweatshops for decades.
Maybe one of us can do some research (if not already done) to track down if those kind of records ever existed but maybe never got into a database. I tried with Craftsman, since they still exist, and spoke with a tech on their "Parts Direct" website. I was looking for the age of red Roper 3.7's and I have the model #'s and s/ns. He told me that before a particular date, I think he said around the late 80's, the previously manual records are all dated on the date they were first input into the computer system so there is a dead end. Anyway, that was his story. Ta Ta, time to start thinking about sleep.

D. A. How about Deluxe. Antivibration.

Super (38cc instead of 34cc) 25 Deluxe Automatic (both manual and automatic oilers). Some of the late yellow PP S25DA's were AV models. They have a different AV setup than the earlier green (and private label red, orange, red, or yellow) S25-CVA saws (Super 25 CounterVibe Automatic oiling).

* edit :)

Got some Dayton/Poulan 5200 troubleshooting ahead of me...........

I was pretty stoked to finally have an opportunity to run the Dayton this week. Here is the story; http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/209144.htm#post3850551

Things didn't play out as I'd hoped.....the crazy thing is that the saw had started up and ran just fine down here in the Valley before I headed up North. I had anticipated the dried out diaphragm in the carb issue and had hoped that installing new ones would be the ticket. I'm leaning towards ignition being the issue as I know there was fuel and compression after I installed a new plug, dribbled some mix in the carb and attempted to get it to light off.

Probably something simple I'm overlooking but man was it frustrating!! Tonight, after it gets dark, I'll have a chance to look at the spark quality or lack there of and see what I can figure out.

*edit -
MAGNETO TYPE:
Electronic capacitor discharge system, two piece

Thanks, OhioGregg, for providing the motivation to go looking for the answer regarding the ignition.

Got your single digit midget calendar all made up do you. :msp_biggrin: How many here knows what that was. ;)

Picked up another 505 parts saw I might rebuild someday. No hurry with a runner already and 2 parts saws now. Like I say parts are parts.

for GTG

I havent gotten back to the 425 rebuild, so I put the 425 on the 505 so I can compare 425 to the 415.

Really liking how the 475 rebuild is running with the non oem husky piston too. BB husky piston is a swap in no modifying anything like the stihl piston is between pin bosses etc. Plus side a little extra intake duration.
I'm going to put a 066 piston in 1 of the 505 though in the future, being I am short 1. Will need to open pin bosses on stihl swaps.

Picked up a Dayton 2Z463B it's pretty clean. This is my first Dayton and I like the feel of it. Pretty light for this size saw. I generally run 40:1 synthetic with non-enthanol fuel. I just wondered if it will be OK to stick with this for my 655BP and this Dayton. I'm collecting a few vintage saws and wondered if my mix was OK for everything I run.

Thank you. I'm looking forward to running this guy it came with a new 20" bar and new chain. Previous AS member had it pretty well cleaned up too which was nice.

Got a 4200 in for repair today. The tank has lots of corrosion in it and my idea to clean it out is this. 1) Put about a 1/3 tank of fuel in it, 2) put about 20ea 1/4-20 nuts in with the fuel, 3) shake the hell out of for several minutes, 4) rinse and repeat a couple more times.

I think this should fix this old beast up....Thoughts?????????/
