spikes

Went out to the guy with the Poulan parts today and picked up the chain brake for the 5200, a couple of outer bar plates, a gasket and crank seal for the oil pump.

I just made one but, he did have 2 spikes (I believe because the top spike mount hole is for the 5200 style front mount) for the 5200 series saws and 3 for the 3400 series saws. I'm not sure if these are rare or easily had so I thought I would mention it.

Picked up a Dayton 2Z463B it's pretty clean. This is my first Dayton and I like the feel of it. Pretty light for this size saw. I generally run 40:1 synthetic with non-enthanol fuel. I just wondered if it will be OK to stick with this for my 655BP and this Dayton. I'm collecting a few vintage saws and wondered if my mix was OK for everything I run.

Thank you. I'm looking forward to running this guy it came with a new 20" bar and new chain. Previous AS member had it pretty well cleaned up too which was nice.

Man oh man that's a sweet late production Dayton rebadged Poulan 245SA. It belonged to another AS member? Interesting. There was one just like that (also cherry) listed in my local CL a few months ago. It was about 2-3 hours one way from me, and listed for something like $175. Included the factory manuals, tags, and sales recipt along with a spare NOS air filter. It was gone within 2-3 days (before the weekend, when I would have tried to score it). I have an earlier Dayton rebadged 245SA (with the red labels), but it's not in the condition that yours is. I'm happy to have it though, and it's now near the front of the 'line' of saws to bring back to life.

40-1 with synthetic oil mixed in eth-free gas will be perfect for both your 655BP and this Dayton. That's a 4000 behind the Dayton isn't it? With that saw, the Dayton, and the 655BP you have some very desireable Poulan/Poulan Pro saws indeed.

Hiya Tim. Not sure about the 5200 spikes, but the 3400-4000 spikes are still available from Poulan sources for about $10-$12 (depending on the source) plus shipping. I'll have another "Poulan Parts Wish List" for you soon.:D

Thank you. I bought the Dayton pretty quickly after I saw it on eBay. Turned out to be a nice guy to buy from. I liked the fact that it had the manual decomp. That was just luck on my part because I bought it before I even new there was two setups. Yes, that is a 4000 setting behind the Dayton. It made a trip to Randy and had the cylinder base resurfaced which raised the compression a little along with new rings.

It isn't one of mine, I still have my two runners. I didn't know they were that valuable though...

Yep you got quite the looker there, nice saw.

All of my old junks are running at 50-1 now days and there none the junkier for it.

Got a 4200 in for repair today. The tank has lots of corrosion in it and my idea to clean it out is this. 1) Put about a 1/3 tank of fuel in it, 2) put about 20ea 1/4-20 nuts in with the fuel, 3) shake the hell out of for several minutes, 4) rinse and repeat a couple more times.

I think this should fix this old beast up....Thoughts?????????/

I stuck the sand blasters nozzle inside (silica sand) one once to clean it out. Worked like a charm but rinsing it out took some effort.

Like my stuff. Not too valuable if I'm trying to sell. However, if I'm buying it's "gold".

I'm not sure what's going on with ebay, I'll see a certain model of saw go for a nice price, with several bidders...realizing that I have a saw just like it, sometimes nicer, I put mine up for sale. Funny thing is, mine doesn't get nearly the bidders and about half of what the other one went for. I can't really complain because I've done okay on ebay but it is kinda strange. I guess timing is everything!

Thanks, I think it's your fault I bought this anyway. I saw an old thread and kind of had the 245's in my head that I "needed" one. Not at all sorry, threw it up on the scales dry with a 20" bar & chain and it was 15.8#. Not bad for 73cc, Stihl 440 was the same weight but not the same saw by any means but still interesting.
