A 10K ratcheting tie-down about a foot above the notch/back-cut serves as cheap insurance to help keep the spar from fragmenting. Also works well to stop barber-chair, or at least buy you a few fractions of a second to get further away. Only takes a few seconds to lock in place, and can add years to your longevity.
