Was in the local shop picking up my saw when a customer came in to pay his bill. Owner asked if that was the 26" bar?
Answer Yes.
I was curious as a bar that long is rare here. I asked what he was running,
Answer Stihl 026.
Am I wrong is that way overbarred for that saw?

Hey Harry,

That guy was probably a mid Washington logger. I know he wasn`t from all the way up north or it would have been a 32"er, LOL.

A 20" bar is the upper limit in my mind and I would only use one that long for ROW work where it`s mostly small stuff and the extra reach is a plus.

Windsor made a 26" bar that was regular stihl mount back in the 70's for the 031/032. They also made a 22" bar for regular stihl mount and a 23" bar for regular large husky mount.

funny thing happened at lowes yesterday.. im walking past the husk saws an these 3 mex fellas ask me if they can buy this saw [a 340] and put this bar [looked like a 22 inch bar] on it..
i tried to show them the .325 on the 340 bar and the 3/8 on the longer bar.. shaking my head,, as to say no..
they didnt believe this gringo tho .. i saw them checking out with the 340 an
what looked like an even longer bar,but it coulda been the same one ..dont know..with nobody understanding a wd they said..i guess they just have to learn everything the hard way..
course they could solve the problem an go back to mexico..jmo it was a rite nice looking family tho.
