I was looking through one of our local papers and came across what I found out was an Olympyk 970 from one person, and another fella has a Jonsered 621 and a new Jonsered 66E (according to him). I tried to get into the chainsaw collectors corner to get some specs on these saws, but I couldn't get into the web site. I did a quick search here on AS and found that the 621 is 56 cc/3.4 cu in. Anybody have any info and/or comments on the other saws?

Olympik 970 is 71 cc,made im late '90.The 66 E is older,made in the seventies.Maybe you are better with the Olympik,its younger and easier to find parts.But the 621 was a good saw.

71 cc. That's the class of saw I've been looking to eventually get. The saw (Olympk 970) is like new (according to the ad). What are these saws worth?

I have 2 970's. They're my weapon of choice in the woods. :chainsaw:

I think $300 wouldn't be unreasonable for one in like new condition. If it actually was like new inside and out.

Neither of my 970's are anywhere near like new but they still run great. Make sure the oiler works, I've had some oiler issues with one of my saws.

Back to topic;
The 621 was rated at 3.6 hp and the 61 cc model 66E at only slightly more (less than 4 hp I think), with noticably more weight.
Both were quality saws, Jonsereds probably made the best saws of all back in the 1970s, but by todays standards they are far too heavy for their power, for anything but receational use....
My 621 is from 1970, and has seen pretty extensive "farmer type" use most of these years.

If memory serves, the 970 is also a bit overweight for its power rating.

Please send me a E-mail if it is still there.

I'll call the fella today to see if the saws are still available.

I've did some research on the Olympyk 970 and it's what I could use right now - as far as it being a 70 cc class saw. I've "discussed" another saw purchase with my wife - my reasoning is I'm trying to get more firewood to sell, and some of the wood I come across is more than my MS 260 can/should handle; and with me getting wood after work sometimes, I need to get it faster before dark. She has agreed to all of the above as being an investment :D. I had decided on getting the saw anyway (I hope it's still available today), but I like to discuss these things with my 'better half'. I realize it's my money, but we're a team :).
I would like a 044 or a 038 Magnum, but financially they're out of reach at the moment. Until then, I'll settle for a 'non-Stihl'. Besides variety is the spice of life :).
