I am hoping to track down a few bits to get this one together and going again. Can you tell me which carburetor is on your 251? Mine is not complete and I am hoping to find what I need to finish it up like the needle, metering lever, spring, fulcrum, screws, welch plug(s), etc. etc.

did you get the other pieces you were looking for? AF, springs, etc.? if i'm remembering correctly there are two pawls but will have to verify that with visual observation.
as shown in shaun's pix the carb on a 251 is a Tillotson HS128B. the needle, metering lever, pin, and welch plugs come in the carb rebuild kit. the spring and screw typically don't. the carb diaphragm and gasket kit no. is DG-5HS/T; the carb repair kit no. is RK-23HS. the spring and holding screw look to be very similar to those on equivalent walbro and zama carbs though don't know if they will work on the tillie carb. i'd sure give it a try though.

No points, it's the same as the 284F, bars are hard to find over here, the longest one Carlton lists is 19" :msp_confused: a bit short for 81cc

I understand, I have a 20"Oregon DG that can't be used anymore on my 981 Oly. If it's worth it, you can have it and the chains 3-4(70dl, 3/8, .050). It seemed to be good for most of what I did, just wanted another bar(bigger), to complement my 440 with 20". Let me know.

Unfortunately shipping bars to OZ is too expensive, but thanks for the offer :)
 
srcarr52 & Jerry - Thanks for your interest and support. I solved my Olympyk dilema by trading that saw for another McCulloch 10-10. The 10-10 has arrived but I won't be home for a few weeks yet to actually put my hands on it.

I surprised myself and found most of the pieces for the Oly 251 before I sent it out, less one pawl, the air box grommet, and the air filter itself.

Olympyk 265

Found a NOS 265 on dealer shelf. Acresinternet has nothing. Anyone know much about this model? Looks very similar to 264F and expect similar stats but there does not seem to be any info on the 265.
 
Oleo Mac 350 AF

My latest Oleo Mac is now running (well just) I was missing starter parts and had no spark, a big thanks to Jerry (jerrycmorrow) for his help finding parts.
My coil swap didn't work :msp_sad:, I used a coil from a oly 942, either the spark is too weak or the timing is out.
Back in the box it goes until I find the proper coil.

glad the pulley worked. i feel for ya now that you're headed down the long "looking for a coil" highway. you could almost find chicken's teethe first. be looking out for ya.
 
looks like an older points style version. look at the coil wire configuration. still, nice saw. love them olys

Hey Jerry, could you tell me the main differences between the 251 and 254? Mines a 254. Great saw. Use it a lot, but I am gonna retire it soon since it was my grandfather's saw and I know parts are rare. I seen that yours is a 251, and I have seen some 251s for sale lately.
 
264 F needing coil?

My BIL has a 264 F that dies when hot----so typical diagnosis is bad coil? The saw is in great condition and tons of compression.

Chainsawr has a couple used coils for $75 plus shipping. Wondering what I should tell him to do? Is there a better option available? Just a bit concerned about replacing an old broken coil with an old "ready to break" coil.

Thats the diagnosis from here, and thats about the only option. A parts saw would be a better choice, IMHO. 54stude had a runner not that long ago, he may still have it and be willing to part with it.

The bar and chain from that one should fit any number of newer saws, also. Sad they don't stock them any more, but most would use the $100 or more towards a new(er) saw.

I also need a coil but I'm going to wait until I find a parts saw, it's your call whether you pay the $75 or not.
If I really needed the saw running I would pay the $75...but I don't.

sorry for the late response chain; just this morning saw your post.
the 251 is 49cc while the 254 is 53cc. based on the same frame though. believe all parts are swappable. one thing to look out for is points vs. electronics. the electronic saw has mounting holes on the cylinder for mounting the coil whereas the points saw coil is mounted in the starter cover. also, there are some other differences. generally points saws will freely swap with other points saws; electronic saws will freely swap with other electronic saws. here's a link with more info. i still use my old olys on a regular basis. i figure they're there for using so i'm gonna use em. if they give up the ghost i'll set em on the shelf and use for spare parts.

Did you check with Efco to see if new coils are available? Bars from mid sized Homelites fit the 264'S. Also the older Jonsered bars will fit them too. What size bar would you be looking for? I have a few spares.

He's going to check the dealer where he bought the saw and see what's available. He's got a nearly new 20" bar on the saw. I told him to make sure the tank vent is doing it's job before getting any parts. I haven't seen the saw in action, just going by what he says.

Thanks. Good stuff to know. My 254 says right on the side electronic. I believe it is from 1983. A friend saw a good looking 254 that was only missing the air filter cover at the scrap yard. I twas only like $3. He ask me if I wanted it. I would be stupid not too. :laugh: He went back the next day and it was gone. :msp_sneaky: Would have been nice to have another one laying around. Nice, dependable, powerful saws. In fact, now that I think about it I better run in my garage and make sure my 254 is still there. Mine was missing the air cleaner cover...hope that wasn't my 254 in the scrap yard!!!!

My 264f boiled the gas the last time I used it and I've not had time to look it over since. There is a place in Wooster Ohio that has the IPL for that saw on the internet. Google Efco. I ordered parts through them and I was surprised what was still available. Those are really nice saws when running good. They make up in torque the little they are down in cc's. My F model hangs right with my 2065 J Red. The 264 Deluxe is a few ticks back. He will probably need a 70 DL chain for that 20 inch bar.
