If the Pioneer/Partner chart is accurate, the first sub-55cc saw was the 5000 so whatever it is, it's likely be at least 55cc.


While the chart is Handy, it is missing some information. A few of the R series are left off of it completely. R15, R18, R19, R22, R30. Those are what I know off the top of my head. I'd like to be able to fill in more of that information. I will be picking up a nice looking R22 next weekend so I can add that information.

Various collectable saws as with most collectables have an ebb and flow to popularity and value.
When I first joined up here Partners were on a relative upswing of popularity though now at the moment seem to be a bit off the radar, which to me isn't necessarily a bad thing as it keeps prices and competition down.

Who knows, the recent spike in activity here could be the catalyst for another comeback, that's how these things work after all.
And don't lose sight of that there's a whole big world of collecting out there that's not online and never will be, hard as it is to believe, the internet is just the tip of the iceberg there...

I like the toaster saws. There different in there bumble bee colors. I was just collecting a few huskys then went after a few partners. I’m cursed with anything I collect that’s affordable in the beginning then all of a sudden the prices will soar overnight. Look at the older husky saws even the non running saws demand big dollars. Like anything else we need to wait and weed through the selection till the price is right.

In my area, I have picked up 6 (soon to be 7) running saws, and 5 powerheads as parts. In the span of about a month, month and a half. I think people are trying to make money off of them now.

I missed out on an a decent looking S55 for $40 at a yard sale. A few days later the fella who bought it messaged me through the Facebook marketplace and tried to sell it to me for $200. I'm hoping my local run of the market isn't up.

Would any of you fine folks know if I can still get a rebuild kit for a Tillotson HS117B carburetor? And maybe direct me to it? I've been browsing eBay and Amazon and none of the numbers seem to match up. It is for my R420T.

And anyone else out there with an R420 or other Partner 65cc saw. How hot is normal for these saws to run after a few minutes? This one gets quite toasty. I have been tuning the carb, and it does need to be rebuilt. As soon as I flip the saw on it's side it "runs away" almost. Guessing the diaphragm is gunked up or something.

I don’t see the 400 (40 cc) on the list.? It’s called a pioneer partner 400 (40 cc) but I’ve seen it labeled partner 400 too.

Running away on its side sounds like a loose crankbearings and seal?

I'm going to give it new fuel lines and filter this weekend, just in case those are letting air in the system. They are old and hard. If no improvement after that I'll have to check the seals.

If i need bearings and seals, am I out of luck? or can a fella still rustle some up nowadays.

For the HS-117B you need repair kit RK-23HS. Searching for that should get you what you need.

I think most of the time the bearings are numbered and can be found, the seals can be measured and found.

IIRC the bearings for Husky 50, 162, 254, Partner 500, 5000 and heaps of other brands and models have replaced the originals.
320815 became 505 32 08-15 -> 503 25 00-01 -> current part number 738 22 02-25.
Don't take my word for it though.

Thank you both.

I fixed up a yellow clutch cover with a chain brake I had on a parts saw and put it on the R420. I prefer the yellow cover with the stamped "Partner" to the blank black cover. I threw the bigger bar on it for now and until my original bumper spikes arrive from chainsawr I put a little Stihl spike on for now.

I looked in my old binder today too. Nothing on R40 but a bit of stuff on R420T, P85, P55. I've made a mental note of what's there for future reference.

If you ever get a chance, I'd be interested in the R420T stuff. No rush. Thanks.


Picked up two more Partners this weekend. R22 and (maybe) a P55. Neither run yet. P55 has no spark, and I can't get the R22 to pick up fuel from the new line and filter. Carb will come apart next.

I have gone through the book now, no R40 info sadly.

Here is a R40T IPL. That what your looking for? A R40 would be points ign I believe.

Far as I can tell the R4oT seems to be the same as the R440T. At least I have not found any difference in them yet, might have been made for different markets? A member here a few years back offered me a nice R40T. I wanted it to verify myself if it was indeed the same as my R440T. But alas, I never was able to get it, as he offered to ship it but never did and even being one state away I never had the time or ambition to make a several hundred mile round trip to go pick it up.
