Location
Small Town, way down South- New Zealand.
Just happened to be the very first chainsaw I ever ran- not a "same as"- but THE very one.
I was first trusted to run it around 40-43 years ago- and last week, at 83, my Dad finally consented to the fact he probably was not going to run it again.
MANY a Winter I was warmed by the contribution from this old workhorse- back in the days when you owned one saw and took care of it.
No AV, no lite bars, no skip chains, no muffler mod, no base gasket delete- no frills- just a tool that got the job required done.

Perhaps the only "non" original part on it- the starter pull handle.

Starter cup is reasonably worn, but thanks to some pointers from @pioneerguy600 , I managed to get the pawls to engage well enough for consistent starting- for how long, not sure- so will be keeping an eye out for donors.
Other than that, wee bit of a play with the tuning, light dressing of the bar- needs a file taken to the chain, but after 55 years it still runs pretty nice.

So nice to have that very first one still in your possession, I can say the same for myself. The memories it brings back every time I see it and even better every time I run it, very few of us can still pick up and run the very first saw we ever had the chance to operate, it was the early 60`s for me when I had the chance to run the RA at my grandfathers farm.

Oh, how many fingers were burnt removing that oil cap! Not to mention the oil caps themselves, melting and coming loose
In Canada it was commonly known as skil 1629, but also available in many different colours and models/brands.

Yes, we also had the yellow Skil's here . Back in the 1960-70's the Canadian and American saws were quite common, more so the Canadian as we were part of the same Commonwealth. Then Husqvarna pretty much took over, then Stihl- with Stihl being top dog still.

The PM`s and the IEL companies share a lot of history, at the time IEL was becoming Pioneer many of the designers and engineers of IEL did not want to move from Vancouver to Ontario so they formed the Power Machinery manufacturing company and continued on for several years in the Vancouver area while IEL morphed into Pioneer based in Ontario.
