You fellas are the ones that have document collections with substance, but I have a couple as well.

My first goal for collecting documents is to keep them from being lost forever, which leads to my second goal of sharing them.

Where should we post the list of documents that we have?

Shall we post them in this thread?

Here's an idea. What if someone here opened up a Photobucket account for hosting the scanned items. Anyone with the password could post scanned items or retrieve them. The person who opened the new account would keep the password and give it out to anyone who needed access. The password could be shared through a quick P.M. on Arboristsite. That way, we could all have access but it wouldn't (hopefully) be abused.

photo bucket is an open account. you only need the account name for viewing and you can also
copy the image link from those accounts. no pass words required.

pass word is to add or delete images in that account.

Is Photobucket safe from sabotauge?

once an image is displayed on the internet it is fair game to anyone.

It becomes free. You can right click and save any image to your computer.

only the person with the password can change the content.

If you were to open a bucket account and give it a name like,

"PIONEER IPL'S, it would be open to anyone to veiw,

google my signature and see what happens.

but to answer your question. nothing is really safe in this world :)
anything can be hacked............

You can also open up an account at mediafire.com and host the files there.

That site allows you to sort with folders and sub-folders. For example, you can have a "Pioneer" folder, then in that folder you can have a "Pioneer IPLs" folder, a "Pioneer Service Manuals" folder, etc.

To keep the files private, change the default setting for each folder from "Public" to "Private." This will allow you to share individual files, and will not allow anyone you share with to navigate upwards to get at your other files within that particular folder.

Scaning, Cd's,And on and on....

Okay boy's this is getting a little confusing for me but then that doesn't take a whole lot LOL! Be patient with me here.

#1 Someone said you could scan then to a Cd,so if you scan them to a Cd or scan them to share any which way you still have to take the time to scan them. It's the time it takes to scan, correct?

#2 If some one asks me, Lawrence do you have an IPL for a IEL AB?I say yes I will scan it and send it via email. When I scan it it ask's do you want to keep the original size,I say yes.So I scan it and it goes to My Pictures, from there I email it to whoever wants it.When the person receives it they can zoom in on the information sent for a closeup of a part or whatever.

#3.I have a photobucket account which I use to post pictures on AS.I am pretty sure you can't view my pictures without my password,Not Positive though.

#4 When someone sends me a pdf and I don't even know what that means, sometimes the pages are all in different places.Unlike when I send a scanned picture of page whatever they get a separate email for each page.Maybe this takes up way too much room,Dunno.

#6 For me the best thing would be a CD with all the stuff about Pioneers on it excluding what I have already. From that CD I would like to be able to [print a page off and take into the garage if I am working on that specific thing.
#7 Or have everything stored someplace where it is tamperproof and I could print it off as I need it.The only thing I like is the option to zoom in or out and have GOOD CLARITY.I have received copies of IPL's that I could not read whorth a dam.
Sorry about taking up all this space ,but just had to let you know what I have been mulling over
Thanks
Lawrence

Anyone like to comment without tearing a strip off the old backside?

Okay so what I have said here is probably already know so maybe I should have just kept quiet.

Not a problem.

Yes, the time it takes to scan is what slows things down.

Instead of scanning directly to a CD (it can be done, but is a more complicated process), scan to your "My Pictures" folder as usual.

After you have scanned all documents, then you can select all of them at one time and burn them to a CD in one shot.

That's a good way to do it. The original size gives the best clarity. If someone wants to reduce the size they can do so with the copy that you send them.

#3.I have a photobucket account which I use to post pictures on AS.I am pretty sure you can't view my pictures without my password,Not Positive though.

Unless you made your picture or folder "Private," then others can view them.

All of my pics and folders on photobucket are public, so anyone can view them.

#4 When someone sends me a pdf and I don't even know what that means, sometimes the pages are all in different places.Unlike when I send a scanned picture of page whatever they get a separate email for each page.Maybe this takes up way too much room,Dunno.

PDF = Portable Document Format. It is quite popular as most computers have the reader that can read pdf files.

Another advantage of pdf files is that it can reduce the size of the file without reducing the quality of the image.

I should also say that the person converting the images to pdf can opt for reducing the quality of the conversion (I prefer not to do that).

#6 For me the best thing would be a CD with all the stuff about Pioneers on it excluding what I have already. From that CD I would like to be able to [print a page off and take into the garage if I am working on that specific thing.

Ideally this would be done, but in reality is probably too much work for the person creating the CDs.

If I had to pick and choose different files for different people not only would it take longer, but could get confusing! I would rather just put all of my files onto CDs and let the recipient pick and choose which files they wanted to copy to their hard drive - it shares the work this way and makes it easier for everyone.

#7 Or have everything stored someplace where it is tamperproof and I could print it off as I need it.The only thing I like is the option to zoom in or out and have GOOD CLARITY.I have received copies of IPL's that I could not read whorth a dam.

Mediafire.com is a site that many use. Files are only uploaded once. To share a file, just PM or email the download link to someone.

I have received hard-to-read files as well. Sometimes it is caused by the person doing the scanning, but sometimes it is just because the scanned documents themselves are of poor quality (old, worn, tattered, etc). This is another reason that I always ask for all files from those that I exchange documents with. This allows me compare documents so that I can keep the best quality ones. :D

No problem. We appreciate the sharing that you have engaged in and it only takes a few minutes to answer questions so why not? :)

I hope I have accomplished that!

Okay so what I have said here is probably already know so maybe I should have just kept quiet.

Nope. If it is already known, that is all the more reason why you should ask. That way we can share the info with you.

Does anyone have any scans of advertising of the bigger P series saws?

here is one from 85 I just scanned. Will look for some more.

this is an 8x11 ad that I reduce to about 350kb size and load to photo bucket.

right click and save and you got a pic . Print on glossy and frame it. :D

Pioneer IPL's and Manuals

Okay Guy's I would like to try and grab the bull by the horns here.I would say we have become a great group since the early day's of this thread and it would be awesome to keep it that way.So seriously how could we collectively get all the manuals and IPL's togeather for the IEL's and Pioneers for us to share.Would we all be into that? Let's take a poll or try and decide amongst ourselves who would like to scan what, and we all try and do our share. Myself I am into whatever I can contribute and can let you know what I have to share.Let's get this going,I want to help!

To all of the fellas that have posted recently on this topic Thanks Very Much for doing so.I think Modified Mark and Pioneerguy 600 started it off.

All but my most recent documents are scanned and uploaded to separate file folders (Service Manuals, IPLs, etc). This was a requirement for me as I am on dial-up and it is much easier (and quicker!) to just send a download link.

Lawrence, I'm in and since your asking I think that first off we all need to figure out what each other have!

We need to get Artie involved if he has that much material also. I decided unless someone says they already have the service bulletins scanned to go ahead and get them done in the next couple of days.

I will then put a written list together of what I have and if everyone else does the same we can see who has what and then go from there.

I would be glad to send a few copies of what I have out on disk to the fellas that are into hosting them.

I will have my list together soon if everyone else thinks its a good idea to compare notes.
Like Chris said I also had a few duplicates from swaping files with Chris before but I have to say that my copies turned out better so those are the ones that I keep that is as long as there the same exact file.

I know that with the Poulans for example it is good to have as many verisons of the same models IPL's as that way you can keep up with the changes in them.

Im all for it but I don't think I can be much help. The only ipl and manual that I have is for a P50. Most P series and many other ipls are on chainsawr.com. and some on rottmans. I guess the ones that are not on the web would be the one to start with. If theres anything I could do to help, just ask.
