I have never seen a right handed thread on the clutch side of a chainsaw because crankshaft rotation would tend to loosen it.

My old Homelite belt-drives have right-handed clutch nuts. To be fair, it is a lock-nut and the clutch itself has 2 keyways. Very heavy.

I always check the clutch for directional arrows. Alot of them have indicators telling loosen thisaway or tighten thataway.

This 650 is a runner. Tore apart the fuel system, stem to stern--new fuel line, Stihl filter, carby kit. Fit the full wrap, including making a bracket for the upper mount. Fortunately the handle came with the clamp, so no monkey business there. I found a spike for this saw and have a line on the cylinder shroud. Saw fired and ran with a bit of prime. It'll start easily now with a couple pulls.

Spent a bit of time cleaning off the saw. Looks a bit better. Interesting looking muffler.

What are you guys doing for bars? I'd like to take it for a spin, but I don't have any dinky 5/16" slot bars. (Sorry for the dig, but the studs seem awful small for a 100cc+ powerhead).

My FarmSaw too. A fingernail placed in the thread and rotated clockwise pinches against the nut. CCW it comes off the end of the shaft. The clutch nut on it appears to be self locking too. A good day... I learned something.

A nut or bolt loosened when turned CW (to the right) is a left handed thread. I have never seen a right handed thread on the clutch side of a chainsaw because crankshaft rotation would tend to loosen it. Rut which way did you turn it to loosen (wrench or ratchet handle @ 12 o'clock)? If left I need to make a BIG note.

Note made: My FarmSaw has a right hand thread.

Turned it CCW to loosen. Now I know

P61

This is the P61 I am restoring. The P41 and P51 are in original condition. The P41 as seen very little use. The P51 looks great but was not one of my better purchases. It required a new piston and cylinder assembly. I purchased the P61 about 1988 and rebuilt it once. The side cover is new old stock I acquired in a horse blanket trade along with the nos top cover. The decal on the side cover is from sugarcreek. It is an excellent match. Still need a few parts to complete the saw. I need the outer muffler half to match this cover and the stud for the bottom left. The labels for the top cover would be nice to find. Most of my Pioneer saw have the model number on the top label. Also looking for a couple of more A-11 3/8 replacement tip for the NOS Pioneer bars I have. The ones I have left are 404. If anyone has some extra parts they will part with or trade send me a PM

Neat saws Jeff Whats the P35?
Strange looking little chap sitting back there

The P35 is one of the new upright cylinder saws being tested when the plant closed. They were never put into production or sold. The saw is very well built and had a lot of new feature. Completely different choke with a 1/2 choke position. My guess is about 3.5 Cubic Inch??

Nice collection of saws, Jeff. Can you post some close ups of the P35? I never have seen one of the vertical cylinder P's. Very nice.....

The saw uses a .325 chain and sprocket similar to a P28
I would like to try out a P55 if the ever existed.

P62, very nice picture there. I really like the P41/51/61 saws. They seem to always start and run so well. I also like the bars, are any of those done with stencils from Sugar Creek Supply?

All of the bars are NOS. I purchased decals from Sugar Creek for the P61 and a couple of other saw for future restoration. P40 and P50.
I had hoped to find the top decal for the air breather but no luck yet. Most of my Pioneer saws have the model number on the top decal. Both are correct just my choice. I have not tried any of Sugar Creek bar stencils but if they are like the decals they should be a perfect match.

Looking for the Pioneer P61 for the top cover. I have seen decal on the K&N filter for Pioneer Partner saws. What did the P61 K& N filter have?

Now I understand. It looks like all Joe's decals just say Pioneer. My P61 cover has the large decal like in his P42 set. I don't think the decal for the k&n filter came out until the Pioneer/Partner series.

Jeff's P35

Man that P35 is the cat's ass.I mean it looks really, really good.It seems like it would be very rugged. It's built like a tank and also in IMO has very nice lines. How many are there supposedly in existence again.I bet that would sell for a hefty amount Jeff.Great to see it in good hands.

This saw makes 3 that are known for sure but there are some that are still being used I am told. My serial number is 1368839 and another fellow has one that ends with 55. I emailed Mike A but no reply to what his is. I have heard of a test run of 25 saws and others say 100. Our serial numbers are 16 apart so ? If anyone sees a P35 try to get the number off the bottom of the handle. This one is not for sale. I traded some good stuff for it. It was a good trade for both sides.

I got the p 62 running finally, then the nut holding the clutch on came off. I've got to put it back on before I can get it tuned good. The carb screen was clogged. It was clean before I filled the saw up and started messing with it. I hope that is all that came through and I won't have to clean it again. It did seem to be pretty strong the few cuts I got to make before the nut came off. I might be too rich as when I pulled the plug it was wet.

Picked this up today guys. May need a little help with it. Looks kinda like an RA to me? The guy told me this early one never came with a top cover? I thought that was kinda weird? I thought they all came with covers? It doesn't turn over:cry: It will rock back and fourth a little. I suspect the guy hosed the thing down when he got it, he said it was real dirty and he cleaned it up, when I got there today he had to hose out, and it was a little wet!!!
