Yes, my friend does at work. Is that the best way to weld it. I'm on the lookout for some 1/16" aluminum sheet to use.
Is 50/50 argon/helium tig weld the way to get this job done?
Thanks

Should work fine but the chainsaw part has to be really cleaned up, durn mag alloy is very porus and lots of oil and contamination in those pores will make a poor weld if not really cleaned up.Boiling the part in soapy water really helps bring out the bad stuff, grinding don`t cut it, takes heat and soap to get it really clean, otherewise the heat from the welding process releases all that gunk and really interferes with a good clean weld happening.

You gots to be a Pioneer mechanic to know what`s what on them...LOL

Oh yeah. Resto coming up real soon on my 850. I'll learn everything I ever wanted to know about Pioneers in short order.

Was talking to a fellow at work and he does powdercoating on the side. Sounds like he has a good setup and knows what he is doing. Catch is--he's my boss' older brother!

Powder coating would be my choice if I had one, I just used paint as that is what I can do well myself. There are a few places starting up around me that are powdercoating but I will give them some time to get good at it before they get one of my good saws to practice on.LOL

I have a P25 completely torn down. Powder coat would be sweet. Will it cover pits filled with JB weld or do you have to use something more conductive? Not sure how it works.

Last photo of my 700 (this one anyway), scout's honor. Finally settled on a bar/chain setup this saw will cut with. I guess I had some lousy chains with the other bars as this one cuts. I was getting a bit disappointed with the saw, but my worries were unfounded. A bad chain will make any saw seem weak.

No videos this time, just a nice picture of the saw.

I havn`t had one done yet but I thought the powder electrostatically bonds to the metal, therefore it would not bond to the epoxy, I may be all wrong on this so hopefully someone with firsthand knowledge can fill us in on this.

Just for everyones information that works on Pioneer saws with the OMC carb on them that Joe Sylva from Sugar Creek Supply has made up some carb kits for these saws and some kits for the HP Tillotsons as well. These kits have not been available from a dealer for a very long time so if you need one better get back to him early.

A good sharp chain is what sets any saw apart from a poor performer to looking like a race saw, in your last vid the saw had more comp and better power but it will do much better with a new bar and chain. Post as many vids as you like, we are all pict and vid HOS.

I'm ahead of the crowd on this one. Just got 3 OMC kits in the mail today, along with an HP-19 kit, and a flatback kit.

Just in time, too. My second 700D just arrived in the mail. Anybody have a spare cylinder shroud for one of these?

Any one know were to grab a set of rings for a Pioneer 700?
Part #'s I have look like,
Rings: 471002
Piston: 427585
Piston could look better, but assume locating one would be next to impossible.
Thanks guys!

Just a bump!

Any help would be appreciated!
Much to trade.
Next step is a part out! (if she was a gear drive, I would sit on her).

My 850 parts saw could use those 700 parts of yours Matt if you do decide to go down that path!
I don't have any IPL's for these Pioneer saws as yet, but I believe that the 700 parts could well interchange with those of the 850??

Regards,

Chris.

So far, pretty much everything has interchanged between my 700D and the 750 parts saw. A little dicey using a 700 muffler on an 750/850 cylinder and vice-versa---the ports don't match up well at all---but it can work. The cylinder porting is definitely altered between the models. The 750/850 cylinder cover has cast-in rectangle for the model decal. The 700 is flat as the decals are in a different location. But they will still fit all models. 700 is ungoverned, 750/850 is governed. All minor stuff--the majority of the parts interchange.

I call dibs on the aluminum cylinder shroud!

Piston rings for Pioneer 1200

Just ordered four piston rings from "the greek" , 46mm bore x 1.5 mm thick for my Craftsman/Roper 3.7".

I ordered four instead of two because there is a strong probability they will also fit my 1200. I went by the published bore specs and guess-timating the ring thickness with drill bits thru the exhaust port. I don't have it apart yet.

Now I have to wait untill March 7-14 for delivery.

Waiting on parts sucks.

That parts source has to be the best kept secret on this forum. Took me since mid December to find it. Would have had new rings in my Mac 10-10A by now for sure.:blob2:

Don't even have to search by size, they have them listed by application. Type in Homelite and you find rings for my XL 12.

Chris came over today to hang out in the shop and work on a few projects.

He brought the 700 over and I have to say that I sure like that one!

He seems to have most of the bugs out and its running really good. We took a short video of it.

We also put the chain off the 850 to the grinder and gave it a good sharpening and set all the rakers down on it. It was my first time with the 1/2" chain but I'm betting it will be throwing out some big chips! It was too dark to try it out when we got done with it though.

Here is the 700 and I got to run it.
