that looks just like the one i just got. exept mine has the fullwrap handle. which acording to the owners manual that came with it was an option. the only thing i see missing is the cover fore the sparkplug access.

Thankyou!

I wanted to say a big thankyou to Mark (Modifiedmark), and Matt (Teddyscout) for sending me through the IPL's for the Pioneer 850 and 750 saws. I was lucky enough to find this Pioneer 750 saw the other week, and so will now be able to begin rebuilding the 850 parts saw I have.

According to the current owner, the 750 is frozen up - but I am hoping I can save the engine, or better still - something else is wrong with it like the starter is jammed up. You never know!

I pick her up tomorrow, so fingers crossed.

Here are some pics of the 750.

Regards,

Chris.

Yeah, good pics, thanks! That's a cool design. Is the carb as hard to get to as it looks?

They are a cool old saw, to get the carb off the rear handle has to be removed first. It is just the removal of 2 bolts and 2 nuts to take the entire rear handle off.
More picts to come that will show the carb off.

Pioneer 450/550

Anyone know where I can get a complet gasket kit for this Pioneer series of saws. Had to remove the top cover to expose the tanks and this gasket is rather complicated so more difficult to make. Thx

Since you already have an 850, I'd make the 750 a runner.

Once you have both saws and the IPL's in front of you,
I am really curious as to what actually is interchangeable.

The coil was cracked up bad so I peeled the outer layer of covering off and resealed the coil with an epoxy coating, the pionts needed filing to good shiny metal, reset them and mounted the coil, it has big bright blue spark at the plug, a NOS,Champion J8J.

This was the piston and cylinder that belonged with this saw, It did not make the compression I was expecting so I later changed it out for a NOS , P&C set.

The saw would start and run and even cut wood with the original P&C set on it,

They sure are a different looking saw, nice job as is normal for you.

Did you ever get the 400 going? They had a little more displacement didnt they?

Yes I did Mark, it will get a complete tear down and rebuild also, all these saws need some bits replaced or a little attention. All the 400 series saws and the NU17 have the same displacement and all parts interchange although there are subtle differences.

I have put some time into thinking about whether to do just what you have suggested, but I figured that there are definitely more 750's out there than 850's (well there seem to be from what I have seen), and seeing as though I have the complete gear train, casings etc for another 850 - I am hoping it should be easy enough to assemble it using the parts from a 750.

I picked up the 750 today, and she looks to be all there. Will start stripping her down to see what the internals are like, and their suitability for the 850 program.

Here are the pics of the 750 as she stands today. She is an Australian labelled Pioneer, and as can be seen - has had a chip flap riveted to the clutch cover during its previous life. The muffler has seen better days, but will still work okay. The current owners father in law found the saw in a rubbish bin, and decided to save it from a certain death. Lucky for me!
