Stinkbait,
I'm gonna let you in on a secret. The "guy with an extra top cover" in my post above is me. I was expecting a PM from you. PM me an address and I can get a cover headed your way. It's a shame to have a fine running RA without a top cover.

Thanks! PM sent, as well as rep.

Just traded another AS member a Homey XL903 for this saw,it came without a b&c but I had an NOS 18"er.Ran it today doing some yard cleanup and I really like it.What saw is it based on,the P41?

Nice looking saw Dan. I love the bar. Yea, it's based off the 41. The farmsaw was meant to be a homeowner saw. Still a dam good saw, but the starter is a weak link.

Almost an owner

I'm dreaming of a 6 cube pi-o-neer.
Just like the ones we used to seeeee.
( sing to the melody of white christmas)
It's got lots of com-press-ion.
and a 3 foot ba-aaar.
Can't wait to get into some woo-ood.
That's all I can come up with for now.
It's not quite mine yet.

NU17`s are cool, yours looks to be in fair condition, not a lot of running NU17 around. I just did a complete rebuild on one last week and it now runs great, they make good power for an 89 cc engine from that era.

I did a teardown and refurbish on a NU17 last week, I don`t think there has been any picts of a 400 series disassembly posted on here yet, any interest in me posting picts. It is a good running saw now but will require paint to be restored.

Well, heck YA! You know we are all pic whores!

Ok Will;
This saw was in pretty good shape, missing some paint like most Pioneers are at this age but in alot better shape than the last one I rebuilt. I had a couple of parts/donor saws to scrounge bits from and a few NOS parts from my collection.

It required a complete teardown and cleanup, had low comp and no spark, all the fuel lines were gone, the carb was clean but the diaphragms were hard, the coil was all split and the plug wire split in several places, boot split too. The clutch cover is in nice shape, don`t think a chain was ever thrown.
