Nu-17

Hello. Looking for some help finding some parts for a 1961 Pioneer NU-17. Specifically I need the magneto (I think) and crankcase gaskets. Any help greatly appreciated!

Just thought I would post some pics of my big saw from the other day. Its a BP655 wearing a 36 bar. Yes the chain brake is almost new and does work. Since it a pioneer design and fits in with my other pioneers I decided to post it here. Then there is my P52, its running a 32. Both saws have full comp chiesel chains. Both a running 8 tooth sprockets. I put a new clutch in the 655 but still could use a new drum and bearing.

Is the decompression valve on a 1074 supposed to seal completely? I cant get mine to stop leaking during a vac/pressure test even after thoroughly cleaning and even lapping it with compound.

All decomp valves are supposed to seal completely when closed but few really do after they are used. Take it out and plug the hole, that will give a more accurate reading for your vac test.

Nice big P saws you have there, Bob. Very solid hard working saws for their time.

I Cheated

My RA has the top cover with the medallion and holes where I assumed the "Pioneer" lettering was attached at one time. Been looking for a cover with the lettering and medallion but have found these are very rare. So I found a cover with the lettering that was otherwise busted up. I thought I could remove the lettering but found it was cast into the cover. So I did the next best thing - I band sawed the lettering out of the broken cover and fit it to my medallion cover and attached with JB, then blasted and repainted the whole cover. Someone in the past had the medallion attached with a screw. I fixed it as best I could and attached with silicone so it's removable.

That looks good Buzz, if it was chromed it would look like the original.

Thanks - My bad - had a notion to check before painting. Shouldn't be too hard to clean the letters off.

Maybe let the paint harden up well and then just polish the paint off the top of the letters, I think that would look cool. I was very lucky to find a NOS piece for my RA cover when it was restored.

That would be a good start - can't hurt to try. I'm not too far off, just a little thick on the letters. Thanks for the photo.
