What I have is a P50 complete that has a non brake cover.
I'm looking for whatever I need to get a brake on it. Getting slow in my days lately and feel better with a brake.

I should put chain brakes on my Pioneers too, but I don't have the parts anymore.

I see Arrowhead already offered you a clutch cover - I was gonna offer to trade one made for chain brake for yours that isn't.

Also, I'm still looking for a double set of the smaller dawgs to replace the big fangs on one of my saws.

Enjoy your P50!

Where is the wire 'arm' supposed to butt up against. Seen here about 2:00 in this picture.

It wants to wander around and get tangled with the comp. release lever.

I believe it should be wedged in the bottom right hand corner of your pic, but I'll check when I get home. I can pull a clutch cover too and take a pic of the chain brake guts for you. Or is this thing here what you meant?

I'm sure I have an extra brake cover, but I'm not sure if it has the guts in it. If not, the Farmsaw cover guts you posted a link of will work.

Now that I think about it, a lot of the P50's came with a fiber shoe clutch. They had a smaller drum than the metal shoe. I'm not 100% sure the band will tighten up around the smaller drum. See which one you have.

I have a smaller fiber shoe clutch, I'll check if it will work tomorrow.

I'll send you the cover Monday.

Just checked mine has the smaller fiber shoe clutch. Ed let me know what you find out.If it will work what do you need for the cover?

Been fooling with it and it seams to like flopping in the corner by the pull rope. I was thinking it should have a peg for the end to float on. Maybe parts are lost.

Fixed the coil lead wire. I needs to be behind the condensor not in front.

The FarmSaw has a post at 10:30, where the L bracket is on yours. They redesigned the friction yoke and quit using that post by removing an air slat at the 12:00 position.
Lou

Change the post to 04:30 & the missing slat to 06:00.

Looked closely at the 6:00 position and the air slot is wider there than the rest. Outside end of the rewind spring hooks there. May be wide enuff for the end of the triangle wire gizmo.

I'll try that position.

Got him running OK  but trying to figure out what chain pitch he wants. 3/8 and 3/8 LP is tight/loose as you drag the chain around the bar.

Thanks bud.

Carl.

Looked at Acre's site. Pitch should be .325.................................................................

Edit. Six o'clock position works fine. And. the only loop of .325" I have fits great. Lucked out.

We were doing fine untill........

I was winging him outside the garage door when he suddenly stopped. :msp_ohmy: Had just restarted after a long cut with our new chain.

Piston skirt disintegrated.

Spark plug has colored up nice. Rings look good still. And, we run 32:1 mix. Maybe too much skirt clearence.

Unless we find a good piston he will be a box saw.

What a bummer:frown: Just when it was looking so good............KAPOW!!!

What size is this piston?

Vintage Pioneer piston 474573 | eBay

Part number is very, very close to the P21 piston number

Carl,
Let me preface this by saying I might be completely off base. Phew!! Got that disclaimer out of the way......LOL!!!
The eBay piston has two rings where the one in your saw appears to only have one. I "think" the eBay piston might be for a P25 since they used two rings. I did find out that the P21 and P26's used the same piston (according to what I have read).
There is similar information in this thread on page 465 from the Pioneer Man himself Jerry Myers.
Sorry I couldn't help you out with the measurement issue.

My eyes are playing tricks on me, now it looks like that broken piston has two rings...................please disregard anything that I may have erred on..........I'm kind of a dope.

I don't know squat about the smaller P's. I think it's possible that could be the piston you need, the different number may be just for the piston. I think the other number is for the piston kit?? :msp_unsure: See if there's a number on what's left of your piston.

Maybe ask the seller for some measurements if Chris can't find one.

First of all, I have a piston. I just have to get it out of the saw.

Second of all, there is no Pioneer "scrap pile" at my house. Some of them just need a little more attention than others. :D

Third, what else you need Carl? I can probably set you up with an a/f cover. What else?

 Thanks bud.

Yup, piston, air filter cover, air filter (the one on there is all warped along the edge and won't seal) and the pump side cover of the carb. (Tilly HU15C). Someone broke off the idle speed screw boss and used a safety pin for an idle stop. Yikes!

I know what you mean on the bone pile as mine is full of Homie and Remy parts.

Carl.

Steve, I checked the fiber shoe drum, it measured 2 3/4". It would not lock around the break band. The metal shoe drum is 3". Measure yours just in case, but I don't think they made a larger fiber shoed drum. I can send you a complete metal shoe clutch with the cover if you have the smaller one.

I don't need anything for the parts. Most likely I still owe you. ;)

Carl, I have a piston that should work, out of a 1073 or 1074 if I remember right, I think I got a good jug for it as well. I should have a complete carb if you want it also.

No top covers but might have a filter.

Catch is I might not get to dig em out till this weekend..

Let me know.

Thanks Mark. But, I think Chris has me covered. We do appreciate the offer.

Supprisingly, the cylinder wasn't damaged. A few peck marks around the transfers but nothing to worry about.

It will take a while to rinse all the small bits of piston skirt out of the crankcase.:msp_ohmy:

Carl.
