If you read earlier posts you'll surely find mention of baking your Prestolite coil.
My FarmSaw lost its spark as I've stated in recent posts here... I planned on baking mine at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 16 hours... I have a modern dual oven set-up (GE digital, set for 24-hour operation) that's smarter than am I, at 12 hours it shut down. I accused my lady of trying to save a few $ on electricity. After she questioned the marital status of my parents at the time of my conception, I checked the oven manual... 12 hours is as long as it will go. I would have needed to reset the bake time sometime during the procedure. It worked on my coil, even though it was shorter than I wanted. It costs very little to try baking it. Good luck

Thanks for taking the time to dig that up. Will check my serial # and see what's on mine a little later. Pretty sure it will be the earlier cylinder.
I spent the first 20 years of my life in Maumee (Toledo suburb), Ohio... Are you anywhere close to that?
In my defense... she squeezes a nickel until Jefferson waves a white flag... I'm not unhappy about that but she does occasionally go overboard...

I was compelled to pull a couple of Pioneers off of the shelf today having looked at the previous pages. I tired of swinging a maul the past couple of weeks, picking away at last year's rounds. Ran a Farmsaw and the P41 to noodle a few of the last ones down to size. Both ran well. The P41 buffers are much stiffer than the Farmsaws I have. Resonates through the hands at a couple of frequencies. Nonetheless, a pleasure to run. I had a new loop of LGX on the P41. They both pulled like champs. Pulled down the 655 to give her a go. The plate sealing the window between the two tanks has begun to leak. Another project.

Great pic and video. That's a bummer about the divider on your 655. I have done the p62 twice now, and hopefully don't need to again.

Picked up the p51 today . The decomp valve is shot and I had to wind the recoil twice the recommended turns to make it work right . Looking for a new one since it will for sure break . Is a fix available for the weak spring/clip on the decomp? It is junk so I might try bending it a bit.

So in the quest to figure out which p40 41 42 western my saw is I’m still stumped. My buddy who has the shop manuals on these says only the p40 has the horizontal coil mount. Well my western has that, and so does my p40. My p40 has many difference to this western saw the head being one of them. Also the flywheel on my p40 is much different than the western. What do you guys think?

I got some UNI air filter material and made a filter. I’m thinking this should work much better in all aspects. Considering cutting out the center of the original gasket to maintain the rubber seal
FWIW, I played around with a lot of coils to find something that would work as a substitute for the failed blue Prestolite coils found on some of the Homelites. Namely, the xl-76/130's. A Husqvarna coil that fits the 55, 257, 61, 272 etc., mounted up with a little work and functions very well. I know @fossil tried the coil on a Farmsaw. It stood proud of the flywheel somewhat but worked fine. If the flywheel has the same polarity as the Husky, that coil can likely be made to work on other saws where the mounting bosses are located such that a small holding tab/bracket can pick up the rear of the coil. @rocketnorton tried one on a Farmlite.
Cheap offshore coils can be had for $15 or so.

Here is a pic of a p42 and p41 cylinder. The p42 is on top. Some had a decomp, and some did not. I would still say its a p42.

It’s like a 34” bar. Chain was 110dl. Doesn’t say pioneer where the info numbers are but I can make out NER where it’s wore out on the bar. Also has some orange on it. Made in Canada

It looks to far gone. Send it my direction and I will dispose of it lol.
I didn't take the time to pull off covers and shrouds and stuff to inspect that 4th bolt hole area, but my serial number would indicate the saw has the old style cylinder and is unlikely to have been upgraded.
