Thanks Mark, and thanks to the guy you know and the one he knows too.

luckily all the problem part's like the broken / worn starter disk, and the flywheel that has 3 broken fin's where also used for the 245a they'll (hopefully) not be that hard to find. Should I find a tin muffler for it? I dont know if it has the original carburetor on it, the 1963 on the bottom can be a little misleading.

Unluckily those starter disks are almost impossible to find new anywhere . It will work without the top disk though but not really good for constant use that way and just shows another reason to me why that saw should not be put to use on a regular basis!

As for the flywheel, there were 3 different ones used a ND, a Wico and a Phelon but they all would interchange at least all the point ign flywheels did. The later electronic ones were different in the keyway location. Try to keep it orginal if you can and find another ND flywheel for it, all the 200 series had them as well as the early 306 saws. I dont remember seeing one on a 245 though.

As for the carb, I dont think that HS59A was original to the 252, it should have came with a HS 83A carb. The 59A was a 5/8's bore but I dont remember what the 83A had for a bore size. Wouldnt surprise me if it wasnt smaller but the 59A should be fine on it.

As for the muffler, thats up to you and if you can find a complete original for it or not. Like I said, these are rare saws and there are not alot of examples of them around to tell if that stack is right on it or not. The 252 IPL only shows the muffler for it while the 252A IPL shows a stack. Any 200 series tin muffler would be correct on it and I think the early 245 muffler is the same as well.
