Hmmm.....Just got over poison ivy taking prednisone. I get it all the time because I don't wear gloves when im cutting in the woods. One of the vines was that size or bigger and I think thats what got me. Fun stuff.

I would say pretty high on the rash. A few years ago, I cleaned out a small vine for a muzzleloader stand in January. Man, I had that stuff all over my hands. I mistakenly thought that you couldn't get poison ivy in the winter. Won't do that again!!

Is there less of the oil in it during the winter? I cut through that stuff all the time, and so far my wife hasn't gotten a reaction from handling our clothing. In the summer, she gets a severe reaction from our clothing if we come in contact with the plant.

Im not touching it! Its actually my neighbors tree, and ive never seen it this big in my life! 4" dia

We have a few larger diameter trees on our farm with vines like that. When it's time to take one down, I cut the base of the vines about 4 months before cutting up/down the tree. Sure helps with the oil. I too have to go on steroids to get rid of the rash.

I had a vine, not quite that big. I cut a small notch in it, put in a cotton ball soaked with straight Roundup, then covered it in duct tape. A year later, the vine is dead, the tree is fine.

Thankfully I have never been allergic to it, so I dont get it. Here is a tip though, if you are allergic, dont every put your portable climber around a tree that is covered with that stuff :ices_rofl: Had a friend do this one time and he grabbed around the tree to pull himself up the tree with his climber LOL

Hi all I've been lurking on this site for awhile this is my first post. As I am still trying to git rid of the stuff. Last Saturday I was cutting down some dead elm and i cut a vine at first glance i thought it was a grape vine. Docter said it was the worst case of poision ivy he had seen. He said the saw showered me with sap. It was warm working in a t-shirt.

Thats one big arse poison ivy plant! I too thought the winter dormancy would save me...it was a trip to the doctor and steroids instead...but I learned quickly from that mistake!! The problem is/could be identification without the telltale leaves.

Is there a chance you are now on Prednisone? That is the only way I can get rid of a bad case of ivy. You definitely have my sympathies dude!:jawdrop:

I think deer like the leaves also.

I never used to get poison ivy, but one day cleaning out a fence row, breathed in a lot of smoke from it and wham, in my throat, ears, neck, under arms, legs, chest and a trip to the emergency room. Lots of cold water baths and Calimine (sp.). Now I have to be super careful around the stuff!

They may up your dose. Sometime it takes alot at once to fight it.

Wkend,
Good luck. I'm sure you are aware of it, but it is very important to take the Prednisone exactly as prescribed. Maybe you have been through this before. I wish you a quick recovery. :)
