Hi All,
Had a call out to bid on a job today to clear some land, the land is going to be sold. Two blocks, side by side, about 1000m2 each block. It's unimproved land and in medium density woods. The council rule in the area is anything under 3m can be removed without a permit, and the owners want that done. Anything over 3m will stay.

Its all native australian stuff on unimproved land. There's moderate access to the block on one side only. All the stuff under 3m is less than 2" in diameter, most of it actually about an inch.

I've never done a job like this before, I'm thinking loppers and about 10 backpackers for 3 days? Or that may be way overkill. with 10 people, 3 or 4 cutting and the rest dragging the stuff to the edge then each person needs to clear about 66m2 per day, or about 11m2 per hour. This includes cutting it and dragging it to the edge and I've based it on 6 hours work in an 8 hour day. It's not very dense stuff, more tall and spindly and not a lot of it. I'd guess average about a dozen saplings in a 10m2 area.

I've already got my chipper time and dumping factored in, it's just working out the labour side of it that's a bit tricky. There will be no chainsaw work involved. Any advice appreciated!

I'm lost in all the translation of meters and all but regardless of how big, a skid steer with a brush hog on the front is the way to go. If I'm right (probably not) 1000 M2 = 10K sq feet per block so a brush hog would knock that down to mulch in about 1 hour, no chipper needed and 1 man in one machine.

I guess you break it up into skill levels and then add on your profit after total payroll costs.

How do you cut down 18 ft brush to chip if you are not doing chainsaw work? Is there stump grinding, or painting for stump kill?

It sounds like you are not sure of your known variables, and are concerned with the "known-unknowns".
