Little update here. Been a while since I did some work on this saw, was waiting on some porting tools to do the upper transfers. Almost got them to where I want it, need to blend the rear one a little more to remove the hump on the back angle. Many thanks to AL (aussie1) for all the tips on porting this 371.

Some timing numbers for you guys that like numbers.

EX 98.5° atdc
trans 120 atdc
intake closes 78.5 atdc

Nice Job on the porting work, Looks Shweet!

That's beautiful work Will.

Nice work, Will! It's been fun watching you get good at this stuff. The lathe is just icing on the cake!

Thanks guys. I've had fun doing it. The porting turned out well I think, I thank Aussie1 for his experience with the 371, gave me some good tips. The ports saw a little more work then what those last pics show, but not much.

That's a 20" Stihl bar on it just to test in a small log I have, it'll likely get a 24 or 28" bar for work.

Well, here we go. This thing really runs good. I was going to sell this saw, but not anymore! LOL

Stihl 3/8 .050 chain, free hand filed. RPM no load to 14K still 4stroking really good.

Nah, you checked the end gap...........it's running well mate. :D

Hey. Comp is at 160 right now. Was hoping for more but the exhaust is a little higher then I'd like, so that could be part of the cause, only 1.5° though, I still have room to go .010 more on the popup, but I dought that will make much difference at all. But I'm really happy with the way it runs, so I'll just leave well enough alone.

Here is another video. 28" bar, this chain was really a piece of chit, and I hit something freakin twice with it, had to touch it up 2 times in half a tank of gas, guess that's what happens where there is crap lying around every where. Had a crappy time sawing today, the 28" bar I just put on my 046 the grooves are too tight and the dam chain kept slowing down, the kita 6401 I am running semi-chisel, took the rakers down like I normally do, but this chain didn't like it was was extremely grabby. So out of the 4 saws I brought I had troubles will 3 of them on the chains, the 4th was my 200t and only got run for a couple of minutes so I didn't count.

Do you ever just have one of those days?
