I may have a good cylinder for a SL-55A ....... 2.060" bore.

Tore down an unknown Wards/Remington carcass missing the recoil, clutch cover and carb. box cover. It looked a bit different than your average PL/SL-4 to begin with. The crank, rod and piston were junk. Cap came off the rod at speed.:msp_ohmy:

Ha! A big ol' magnesium Remy jump in your lap?

Look for a sprocket/drum for a 660 or 770 as they came with .404.

This: http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/189155.htm Sould be required reading for Remington Bantam type owners.

Which direction does the clutch spin off on those? CW off?
I may have a .404 spur sprocket on my Super 75. Someone can have it if I can get the clutch off.

I've still got a bunch of oddball sprockets, but my reserch didn't show anything for a Remington 754 :dunno:.

Have you asked Jacob J.?

A complete Oregon 10619 kit is what to look for. Or, a good one from a 660 or 770 will be .404" pitch.

SL-55A parts saw.

I tore down a carcass last week that turned out to be an SL-55A if someone needs parts.

The cylinder is serviceable but the crank, rod and piston were trashed.

Didn't notice what it was untill I set the cylinder down next to a PL-5 cylinder. Yikes!

Pro 88 tear down.

Tore down the Pro 88 from Mark H. that wouldn't make much compression. Discovered stuck rings from moisture and/or carbon from the dino engine oil. The crankshaft had a bit over 1/16" endplay from someone omitting a snap ring next to the ball bearing. The magneto magnet was getting into the points plate.

Worked quite a while with WD-40 and an ice pick to free up the rings. They still have the machine grooves in them. They are 2.250" bore and 9/32" thick. Two used.

Next up, a trip to my local industrial parts supply house for ball bearing, seals and crankcase cover 'O' rings.

Ball bearing was a Fafnir 203K. I'll edit in the seal sizes/ numbers later.

I work for a company called Bearings and Drives unlimited, they sell bearings, all types and sizes. Every saw I have taken apart, we have not been able to find a match for new bearings!

haha what am I doing wrong?

When you are a saw company and assembling thousands of units, you can buy special size/configuration on bearings, seals and whatnot.

You (the saw company) buy thousands while Joe Blow buys one.

I'll pick up an MRC 203 SZZ, pop the seals out and not look back.

Don't know if this is original or not. (Not my saws, by the way.) Judging from the handlebar grips and the overall appearance of the wrap handle, I guess Remington made a couple versions of the 88. I just picked up a parts saw on Ebay (ID'd as an SL-5 in spite the clearly photographed serial tag!) I ought to be able to put together a good one soon.

Maybe they did actually come in red/white as the page Cliff posted shows.

We have some I.H. red on hand as it turns out.
I believe the earlier models were white with the convoluted handlebar set up. Later models were cedar red and white with the more conventional handle bar configuration similar to the Logmaster series.

Is that a roller bearing I see in the PTO-side housing? If so, that'll allow for a bit of axial play.

Did you ever determine the seal sizes?

What did you do with your cracked coil? My 88 coil coating is cracked, but I cleaned the points and got good fire. I've heard of folks sealing up the coils so I'll probably do that, somehow. Gotta love the Remington combination flywheel nut/flywheel puller.

PTO side bearing is the Fafnir 203K or your average #203 bearing with extra internal clearence for electric motor service C3. SKF 203 JEM

PTO seal is 1" shaft x 1.571" housing bore x 1/4" wide, single lip w/garter spring. SKF 9894 CRW1

Flywheel side bearing is a needle roller bearing. I didn't remove it as it looks fine. 99% likely a Torrington.

Flywheel side seal is .750" shaft x 1.250" housing bore x 1/4 wide, single lip w/garter spring. SKF 7439 CRW1

Crankcase cover 'O' rings are 1/16" dia. section x 3 1/2" I.D. By the counterman's measurement, a Pak-042 N70R (3 1/4" x 1/16") We will see.

I coated the coil with "Liquid Tape" by Gardner Bender as suggested by sawdust21. Found it at Lowes in the electrical dept. Consistancy of 'Goop' hand cleaner. Troweled it on. Comes in 4 oz. bottle w/brush.

Part numbers added later today when I get the invoice.

I.H. red and white it will be! Same as my GL-7 (but not faded out).

The coil in the GL-7 is going to get the same coating of liquid tape and a new plug wire. The Pro 88 is the guinea pig.

Refurb. of my Super 75A is going to be simple compared to this one.
