Parts for Wards/Remington 2.3

Looking for some odds and ends for a Wards 2.3/Remington Yardmaster type.

recoil pulley #69174
carb. cover #69118
throttle trigger #69119
bar plate #69136

Won a carcass off evilbay for 99 cents. Compression is great, and got the spark going again. Low use saw, hardly any detectable wear on the sprocket.

If this works out, it will replace my Homie XL for an around the neighborhood trimmer.

G.I. issue 754G.

Anyone with an original U.S. army 754G that has the shielded spark plug?

How do you get it out?

I have Mo.Jim's saw on the bench and we need to inspect the aircraft type spark plug. The hex seems to be 7/8" and my only I/2" drive deepwell socket is about .030" too large at the outside to fit in the access hole.

Sawbones?

Ric, "sawbones' Doe's have a Military 754G. Spoke with him yesterday
and he asked me the same question. How do you get the plug out.
Maybe he will chime in.

I have an old Craftsman 7/8" deepwell socket that almost fits in the hole. 1.180" outside diameter. I stopped at Sears yesterday and measured a new one at 1.170" outside diameter.

I may just drag the whole she-bang into the store and do a trial fit. New socket is nearly 9 USD out the door.

Wish I had a lathe.

Carl.

Sounds like you have a bit of an 'issue' there, Carl.

Like anything else that's government-related, maybe the true solution is to dis-assemble the saw from around the cylinder in order to change out the plug.

OMT: Why would the government spec out an aircraft plug in a machine that can't fly?

Carl, I'm curious to hear what you think of it after you get it cutting, have often wondered how one of the 2.3 Remington models would compare to one of the 2.3cid/38cc Poulan models. I know that the Poulan & Craftsman models must have outsold the Remington & Ward models by at least several million ;).

Back when the army used them (late '60s to early '70s) we were using the ANPRC 25 and such. Radio wave interference was a severe problem. The 'Prick 25' was a weak sister at best.

The 25 was two pounds heavier than the M60 IIRC. Only big sturdy fellows were RTO or a M60 gunner.

yeah but the prick25 was carried on the back rather than on a sling or by hand. still heavy though. and then you had spare batteries plus yer ruck and stuff. ugh

Try 3/8 drive 7/8 deepwell socket or 1/4 drive deepwell, they would have a thinner wall and smaller outside diameter.

Is a Champion EJ-6J. Hex size is 13/16".

Drug the saw into our local Sears store and tried every deepwell they had. Resorted to a pipe jaw Vice-Grip. Maybe we should Dremel the access hole while we got him out.

None on evilbay BTW.

Cliff this saw needs a long deepwell, the 3/8 or 1/4 are to short. I will have a 1/2 deepwell turned to a thinner od.

Mil. Spec. 754 gear drive.

I made an exit baffle for the exhaust on Jim's saw in the belief that the wide open exit may be the cause of starting troubles. It wasn't, but here is the prototype anyway. Made from sheet copper from another project. 20 ga. roofing tin would be fine or better.

Bantam type carb. differences.

There is a difference between the housing on a Tillotson equipped Bantam type and one with a Carter ND. You can not just swap carbs. because the Tilly HL requires two holes for the high and low speed jets.

The Super 660 at the rear has a Carter ND and the Military 754G has a Tilly HL (front).

The Tilly is handy as you can do diaphrams and gaskets without carb. removal.:msp_wink:

Wards/Yardmaster 2.3"

Thanks to Mo.Jim, for the parts necessary to get the Wards 2.3" running. Well, sort of running.

Have to pull the carb. as a short run has stirred up crud and now won't run except on a prime.:(

Whole she-bang weighs 9# even with 14" and full fuel and oil. Not to shabby for 38 cc.:msp_wink:

Anyone else messed with a Yardmaster type?

Golden Logmaster Carb

I'm debating on buying a Golden Logmaster from a local guy. He said "it is all complete and ran when I put it away", but somehow he lost the carb while moving. I don't believe a bit of it, why would the carb be off if it ran fine when you put it away. :angry2:

Neverless, I know they are fairly rare, so what is the chance of finding a carb to fit it?

I don't think a carb will be to difficult to locate.
Should be a Tilly HL and i would think any of
the GL models, Pro 88 and any of the other
upright cylinder Remmys would fit.
