I went to bid on this pine today- The HO did not want the needles and whatnot falling into her pool so I suggested thinning it out and removing the branches overhanging the pool. It wouldn't totally eliminate the problem but would definitely help.
Anyway, the tree (which is actually on the neighbor's property) has undermined the adjacent block wall (which is going to be replaced with a cedar fence anyway) and is slightly cracking the concrete next to her pool as well as the concrete on the other side.
The house was built in the 40's and the pool also looks like it has been around a while. It is quite a mature pine. DBA is 2.5-3 feet and approx 75 ft tall. Also has some large dead limbs high up.
I am wondering if the roots are a threat to her pool? What I am thinking is the age of the pool might make a difference. If it was original with the house (circa 1940's) then the roots would probably pose a threat but if it was put in maybe in the early 90's, the roots would have been cut during excavation and would not be as much of a problem.
If removal is the thing to do here, I think I would have to go with a crane. There will be some pretty big chunks and I don't know if my 5/8" pro-master can handle it. In my limited experience (2 years climbing), I have never done a crane removal. Anyway, it will be big money but I kind of hope it's not a removal. It makes me a little nervous. Never had a tree that necessitated taking my 440 more than 8 feet up before. Thanks for your help guys.
