The "problems" that these Ryobis have are actually minimal. The most serious is an overly long fuel line in the tank and a light weight fuel filter. You don't have to fix it if you're willing to just run 1/2 a tank and re-fuel.If you're mechanically inclined (or even if you're not),pulling the filter and line out and cutting about an inch off, then weighting the filter so it stays at the bottom of the tank is really all you need to do.
The muffler mod consists of drilling a few holes, most people can do that without too much instruction.I've even heard of guys that buy new Stihls and an extra muffler to mod.
The safety chain that comes standard isn't much good, neither is the green chain you get standard on certain new Stihl saws.Replacing a safety chain is pretty much expected these days (if you expect to cut any wood).
Is it worth it,the time and trouble that is,well what do you have more of,time or money. You can spend more money and hopefully have a dependable saw,or spend less money and put a little time into it and hopefully have a dependable saw.
I don't mind putting a little time in to fix a few glitches.
I wouldn't be too put out if my $110 saw blew up tomorrow,I would order another one.(They will run out of them one of these days and then the fun will be over.)
