I thought that this one belonged here - SD 166 - PNW filter setup, full wrap, 60" bar and helper handle.

They don`t come much nicer than that one unless they are still in the box.

Have you thought this through? I don't know you if you show up at the next GTG with the bar hanging out the window of your car.

Unless you let me run it.

Of course you can run it. In fact, if you'd respond to your PM's, you could've had in your possession for a month or so. :hmm3grin2orange:

Do ya really think i qualify, I only have 19 of them saws. :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Yes - when it comes to the 166 Sachs Dolmar saws - you are definitely at the top of the tree Lee. 19 saws - amazing. Alot of devotion and man hours in that number for certain.
I am happy to say that the 166/SP118 saw is the nicest saw I have worked on so far in terms of design - strength, fastener choice, and access. ***** in my book.

Chris.

thanks. i wasnt looking to spend more than $70 on a used saw, not a pro saw, just a mid size for use around the house. mostly limbing. i found a nice 14" poulan s25da that i aquired, and it seems to run great.

thinking i may need a 18" or 16", i have LOTS of apple trees that id be putting in quite a few hours cutting down and chopping up. maybe ill just wait and see if the s25da can handle the job.

there is a 18" homelite 10848 that i see for $60, light use and good working condition according to the seller. i may see if that is still available.

As we've said before (here and in other threads) DO NOT bother with that 'homelite'. I've never seen an apple tree that can't be handled by a good running Poulan S25DA...........and I've been living amoungst apple orchards for decades. I cut up many many OLD apple trees with a little McCulloch PM320 wearing a 16" bar and a loop of crappy safety-type powersharp chain (and the S25DA is a LOT more saw than that little Mac). The Poulan will handle a 14-16" bar in that type of cutting just fine.

Like I said before, keep your eyes peeled for a Homelite XL12/SXL-AO or McCulloch 10-10 family saw. They can be had for $70 or less all the time. I've NEVER spent that much on ANY of my saws in those two series. DON'T get that craptastic 10848. It won't do anything that the S25DA can't do.............except give you headaches.

Me too! :msp_thumbsup:

Good job Steve! Sometimes us 'little fish' make out OK too!:jester:

Is the 166 bar mount the same as any other brand?

IIRC, the large mount Stihl (070/090/084/088/880/etc) bars can be modified to work on that saw.

No, The bar mount on the 166 is the same as the
123,133, 143 and 153 Sachs Dolmars. It's a 14mm
mount and it is very close to the large Stihl mount.
You can use the large Stihl but you may have to
modify the oil holes. I believe the adjuster hole works.
