Hold on to it

Tony

You have just called attention to a important change coming two cycle engines. Studys show that saws -weed eater -lawn mowers with two cycle engines pollute the air as bad as cars.

The companys that make two cycle engines have been informed about this and are working on the change. In time the two cycle engine will be history The goverment may band or stop the use of this type engine all togeather

Tony you have given all of us some thing to think about.

Good Point

Dan

Your point is well taken and it is good for evey one to express their opinion. You read the meaning different and you said the way the post came across to you. Now I also see the post in a different way

I do not want to pollute the air Yet I love my two clyce engines they are cheaper cost wise than a four cycle But if BIG BROTHER saids NO I will stop

Thanks for replying This makes a healthy friendship. You are a FRIEND

pollution

All will be right when Stihl announces the new hydrogen powered saw. No pollution, no idling, it will just start when you pull the trigger.
No bar lube, the new super slippery substance bonded to the bar will eliminate the need. The diamond tipped chain ,or another yet unannounced harder material, will eliminate sharpening. No more backwards chain, it is factory installed for life.
Air filter maintenance, not needed. A self cleaning fliter will last forever.
No antivibration mounts to break, everthing on the saw will be totally balanced.
No screws to adjust or tighten. All bonded with super high strength material. It will take the total weight of a falling tree without damage.
No noise, totally silent when running.
And as an introductory offer, it will come with an operator!

Think this will satisfy anyone?

Pollution

Stihl

Dream on man Santa on his way.Your dream is years away. There will never be that day

You can put it on your wish list---Ask for two I will take one of the saws I sure do Hope your Dream will come true

Weak points of my McC 610:
1)Ugly
2)plastic gets discolored and ugly within first day's use.
3) 60cc engine from about 1980, rev's no better than my 1-40 from about 1958, has about same power as 45cc saws, weighs more than my Jonsered 600-series saws, and burns more gas than they do for the same work.
4)diaghragm auto-oiler needs help...thank goodness for the manual button. (I think that;s why they kept the manual oiler).
5)parts are hard to get and expensive...while I know dealers can get parts in many cases, you'll probably have to wait. The cast-potmetal airbox housing is broken on one of my saws, the result of a short fall. (Weak point) I found a new one, but passed because I won't pay that much $$$ to fix a saw I invested $8 in.
6)ugly
7) did I mention ugly?

I don't mean to be rude: if you like yours, by all means, keep on keepin on. I fired up my timberdawg after reading youir other thread(same as 605-610) last weekend, and it isn't any better than I remember. this saw ( 20" bar) was out of gas after knocking down about a 20" burr oak, killed by beaver girdling, and maybe 1/4 of the limbing. I fired up the Jonsered 2149, completely finished the tree, and still had enough gas to get a medium sized popple tree bucked up.

I'm not sold; the 610 was a consumer saw using outdated technology in 1980.

Number ONE saw

Eyolf

Thanks --I enjoyed your post. You tell it like it is. I am so sorry you did not get a old yellow like mine.If you had you would fall in love with it

What more can I ask of this old forty year old saw or what can i say. It humble do what may to it---Keeps GOING going and going;)

McCulloch made great saws back in the '60s and into the '70s. Then they didn't.

I appreciate your love for this saw and I'm glad it works great, but the reason you don't see McCulloch problems here is because the old ones are collectors items and no one here owns the newer ones. Lots of homeowners on various other boards are usually complaining about their Mac that died and either couldn't be fixed or wasn't worth it.

I own a Power Mac 610 and I would happly sell it, if it ran. I'm saving up my energy for spring when to tackle this flimsy, complicated assembly of parts. I also used to have three MiniMacs and two other Power Macs, but I sold them as a lot for $15. Total garbage that wasn't worth repairing the numerous problems they developed.

I also have a McCulloch 250 from the mid '60s that I'm very happy with. It's quite sturdy and reliable, though not an elegant design.

Wait, forty years old? Is this a 610 or a 6-10? They didn't make 610s until the '80s, and it was a cheap homeowner saw. The 6-10 was one of the older heavy-duty saws.

Going any were

Ben

How right your are if they clean up their act.Big Brother has given the companys ample time too . The companys are ahead of dead line set by Big Brother. Changes are slow to be accpted.

This subject came up some time ago. The four cycle weed trimmer is ready to go Two different company had schematic drawings for them!

It is great that we all see thing in different ways that is the reson our country is successful. Different ideas come up . That is why we keep improving what we have or need

This is why this web site is so great Each member and non members see thing different and express their idear or opion in a post . That is how we learn an grow in knowledge

When you GUYS stop telling it like it is The way you see it this

site will lose it value and reason why it was started. I hope you never never stop,

Since the thread title is "Saw of the year" I'll nominate the Dolmar 7900. I haven't even seen one in person but I'm lustful. If we are going to talk about saws from years past--------Dolmar 120si. Unbelievable performance.

when i go six ft under , my instructions are to go get an old 028 for my headstone.. that or an old homelite blue xl..they better not try an slip that 4 cycle saw in on me.. no tellin what a fella can do from the other side.:)

saw nomination

"I haven't even seen one but I'm lustful."

It gets my vote and I got one of DozerDan's Dolmar PP7900's. A word of warning to you Stumper, my wife was in Germany when mine arrived so I got to sleep with it a few nights before the wife came home, those Klingon like dawgs can bite.

The wife and I will be in Germany the day after tomorrow, we'll be there a few weeks, she says we can tour the factory and I can get another saw for Christmas. Got to love her. I don't have to dream about them, I can go see them.

saw o f year

Tony
If you had or have a saw like my old yellow saw you would keep going going and going until you were in heaven

Stumper
The Dolmar 7900 is a beautiful saw It is a better looker than my old yellow saw. As you know beauty is only paint thick. You have fallen for looks.

The saw of year keeps going going and going

John
You are right about year 610 were first built. The factory must have sold a saw with with the wrong I D ;and you purchased it
So that is the reason it would not keep going going and going

If no one can come up a saw that can compete with old yellow it will be the SAW OF YEAR in 04:p

speaking of pollution, I saw an 18 volt Ryobi cordless (battery operated) chainsaw (Home Depot Canada), I was laughing so hard I didn't notice the price... seems I should have been more worldly and read the information card or asked an associate for his/her trained and expert opinions.
