project went well, but bit pita getting in. never on first try, usually by 4th though! :dumb2:

may put in a direct wire LED over shop workbench. got 40w now, and1 dual LED... but i do like the new direct wire tubes...
I did the same with my garage two months ago. I had 22 bulbs that I changed, 3 starters, 4 end receptacles. I have 4 more bulbs to go. I had to do it off an 8 foot ladder because I have 10 foot ceilings. They have been doing good until recently. I had my garage built in 1992. What a difference those lights make.

Several years back Walmart had these 4 foot led shop lights on a black Friday sale for dirt cheap. Like under $10.00 each, I got to the tail end of the skid they were on and bought the rest of them. Kept 10 for myself and gave the rest to my dad for his shop. Big improvement over the regular florescent tube shop lights in dad's shop. Wish I bought a skid of them.

Cutting at my Dad's and neighbors getting dead stuff and blow downs. kept cutting and hauling while it was dry and figured I'd stockpile the to be split stuff for a rainy day thing.

We had a longer than normal dry spell so I was starting to get myself painted in a corner. Stacks are 8 ft high here.

I had final stacked the smaller rounds and used my rack system so I have no end ricking to do. I will add a few on out that will require that but I'll get the bulk in first.

Splitting inside and using the winch lift saves my back on the bigger stuff. max diameter I can get in with it is 5 ft. Lifting it from behind here.

Swing it around and lower it to the wedge.

Split the slides and swing the tables out for room. I also leave it hanging on the tongs in the air on the bigger ones. Just another place to store chunks till you get pieces whittled down.

Everything I had in there is now split and stacked. Final stacks are 8 1/2 ft high, what I can reach.

Mostly beech and ash but have some elm, oak and walnut in there too.

That whole block is solid all the way back.

This splitter makes quick work of it. I have a 4 way wedge for it but don't use it. Creates too much trash and odd sracking pieces for my taste. I get a lot of crotch and knots so you have to be careful not to create more oddball stuff.

On the outside of the racks.

After cleaning up after every session ended up with a pretty big truckload of dust, bark and debris.

Sure will be nice to push the button and watch all this get pushed out. LOL. Total amount of wood in the stack as of now figures out to 26.5 cord.

Part of our scrounge last Thursday. Overloaded now?View attachment 1091453
NICE!!!

I really think SXS’s are an underrated wood scrounger. Especially the Green
Variety like you have or the orange one like iv got. Nice small 4x4 to get thru the mud and such with great payloads for what they are.

Nice little setup. I like the front rack and iv considered it for mine. Just have not got it yet. I also tow a little gravity tilt dump trailer behind it and fill that up to.

Guess ill have to get a good picture of it next time I fill it up. Im bad at remembering to take pictures tho.

Agreed, I'd trash out a pickup going into some of the places I can get my Gator into. I just stage my wood on a landing then I'll start hauling it home in my pickup later this summer.

First impressions on the Estwing 8lbs maul in comparison to the Fiskars 8lbs maul.

Way less vibration gets to your hands and shoulders with the estwing. The handle shape is much flatter sided so its easier to control the head. Still has the rubber on the handle which i hate but it is what it is with a molded handle. Just put a nice hook at the base of the handle and make the rest smooth for gosh sakes !!My preference tho.

The head doesn’t get stuck as easy. I really like the shape of the wedge/head. Seems to splits better but i need more time with it to know for sure.

Down side is i dont think there is metal in the handle up by the head so once that rubber is gone the fiberglass/plastic blend is up for a test. The fiskars will win this one I bet as it has a metal pipe inside and it seems basically indestructible. if you split with the tire method like I do, the handle gets beat up more when you’re reaching for the logs in the middle of the tire and on the other side of it and what not. Think you catch my drift. I love using a tire as I can just go at it and splitting is way fast. If you don’t use the tire method i bet this will last a long long time.

Im pleased with it for now. Keep ya posted.

Side note: my son’s first comment was “dada! Its really cool because it is Michigan colors” 🤣. So we have the approval of an 8 year old too👍🏻

My local hardware store has the estwing in stock, I've picked it up a few times and played with it, but never thought about buying one since I have an isocore maul. Interesting to see what your thoughts arw after some time with it.
Right now im splitting every weekend and 2-3 times a week. So ill give ya an update soon.

I emailed estwing today and asked why I could not find it on their website. The guy said everything made an America is made out of a single solid piece of steel, including the handle and they don’t have the machines to put the fiberglass handle inside the head so these are done overseas, I think in India it said. So that is why its not on the American website.

Then I proceeded to tell him that America wants America made stuff more than anything right now🤣.
