All solved. It just takes a MANLY push on the release button and the throttle lock. Be charging the battery today and out cutting mostly brush in the morning. Tree basicallly all worked up but the top needs cut/pile on burn pile.

Hauled a 1/2 load home today. Out in the monring to finish noodling loading the big rounds plus picking up all the small rounds. That plus brusing out the top will finish that 2nd stem off the same tree - one more to go. At least that one is horizontal and no hangups. Should work up fast.
Maybe I am not cut out to use an electric saw. 2 hours today noodling and loading the big rounds off that tree then pull out the electric to work on the top. Nope. Not even a hint of it starting. I'll take it coffee in the morning and have the guys look at it. I thought the battery may have run down overnight but a try in the charger showed full charge.

Hot today and knew I'd have to unload so I went home. 98 at 5pm. Supposed to be a lot cooler tomorrow.

Does anyone have a Sears saw? When I was a teenager, my Dad put a fireplace in the house. He got a Sears saw because it was recommended by my Uncle. And no Stihl dealers around at the time. All I remember is it was light blue and white with, I think, a 20" B&C. Both my Dad and Uncle's were hard to start and my Uncle told my Dad yo had to turn the saw upside down, for a minute and then it would start. And it would start. Heavy, but it was a cutter. When I bought him the Stihl 038, which I now have, he sold it to some a friend for like $50. They guy worked on it, replaced a defective part, and it started normal after that. Man I wish I had that saw back. Probably would have handled a 28" B&C.
I have that saw. It is complete except for the recoil starter assembly. It is apart and has been cleaned as the attempt to start it failed. I will pull the flywheel tonight and hopefully the problem will be the ground wire rubbing on the flywheel, a noted problem. I will be selling it and my email is [email protected] Thanks Austin

I'll post more about our WE trip when I have the time, but we re-located (and changed the batteries) in one of our trail-cameras (the signal must have been too weak) and it has been Bear Central - only 50 yds from my tree stand. They may not all be different, but they are not all the same guy either!

There have always been bear up on my property, but not like this! We also have coyote pics on other cameras (we now have 4 instead of 2, but only 2 have cell service).

The downside of all these predators ... almost no small game and no fawns (but 2 or 3 different does and 2 different bucks).

I think we have to do some predator hunting!

Well I can say that my welding repair on my splitter worked. Thanks to all with the good ideas. I did run stringer welds and used 7018 rod, I also added a couple of gussets. I finally got around to putting the grapple on the tractor. Dug out the last of last years log length, now it's time to get more. Nothing on craigs list for sale or free. I get a truck and the free stuff isn't there.

If it's anything like around my area, free wood is tough to locate anymore, especially of any quality and or quantity. Fuel prices went way up and every Tom, Richard and Harry I'd burning wood or asking primo prices for yard trees full of nails and fencing. Been fortunate to be helping out my logging buddy enough to keep me in wood the past few years.

Had a very busy weekend so far. Finally started leveling out for the shop. Rike down and grabbed the old man kubota with the hoe on it. As a general rule of thumb I dislike 3 point backhoes, but it's better then a shovel and got the 8" in the one corner dug down pretty quick, and dug out quite a few decent sized rocks that I couldn't handle with my kubota. Had a baby shower yesterday for my youngest sister in law. It's her second kid... yep... rained like heck over night, so I took the kubota back over this morning. Basically need to get the stone laid out when it drys up. I got this cheap laser level thing, other then in real bright sun, it works real well. Got the lot level to within a few inches, nothing a decent layer of modified won't make up for. Then it's get forms up and get the mesh laid out. I guess I'll have to run for the hoe again to dig a trench for water and electric pipes, thats going to have to wait till I have off again. Working the late shift sucks..... can't run equipment after I get home at night and I'm normally sleeping till 9-10am then need to get house chores done before getting back into work.
Which reminds me, we're trying out hemp bedding in the chicken coop. Stuff is expensive, but they claim it lasts a lot longer then pine shavings. Guess we'll see about that. One "bale" was enough to do the coop. Have another on hand. Better last 6 months... I have my doubts. Chickens seem to like it though. It's real soft, almost spongy texture.
Gotta get back on spitting wood. Shed isn't filling itself up, have plenty of seasoned wood in logs and bucks. Just a matter of splitting and getting it in the shed.
Gotta finish getting a co-workers saw back together tomorrow before I go back to moving stone around for the shop.... so many projects and not enough time.

We saw bear on both Saturday and Sunday, and I'm still shaking my head over both encounters.

On Saturday morning, we took a hike to the logging road that runs across the back on my property and found very fresh, large, bear droppings (looked like it came out of a horse). So, we go back down to the cabin and get a trial camera to set up there. We go back up on the ATV (which is not quiet) and stop and my daughter gets off (I stay on with my granddaughter) and she goes 30' in front of the ATV. Two minutes later she looks further in front and spots a large bear that runs off when she sees it. We found some of the footprints and they were good size.

I'm shaking my head that the ATV did not scare the bear away before my daughter saw it!

On Sunday we hike up the trail behind my cabin. It goes uphill for a bit then it levels as we go around to the right, and we retrieve a trail cam that is not working near the back corner of my property (and move it). On the way back down the hill about a half hour later, only about 75 yds above my cabin, my granddaughter is walking about 20' in front of my daughter and I and all of a sudden, we hear branches breaking and my granddaughter turns around and comes running back to us. The breaking branches continue (almost sounding like a herd of elephants were coming) and a medium sized bear comes out of a tree less than 50 yds away and runs away.

I wonder if he was there when we went up the hill, and just was afraid he was spotted when we were coming back down!

Then my daughter goes to the outhouse on Saturday night and tells me she heard something on the driveway. Well, the trail cam says she did!

We had a weekend adventure! Notice that both pictures are from the same camera, so you see where the outhouse is in the daytime picture.

There are a lot more bears around lately than ever before in Mass.
