You guys shared many pieces of good advice.

I’m a little bit overweight and eat too well. That’s going to change though because I’m registered for a half marathon next June.

I was a very good runner in junior high and quit track because my coach was kind of a prick. Wish I had stuck with it and ran cross country as well. I was winning or medaling at most of the mile runs when I was in junior high. I know I can get it back just gonna take a lot of work.
I was never interested in team sports... bicycling and hiking were my things as I could do those alone whenever I wanted to. I can still do those... On the other hand, I haven't met any 60+ year old active football or baseball players in my travels. 😉 But I do know cyclists in their 70s and 80s!

I've done many things over the years, team sports, biking, hiking, boxing, etc.

What I tell people is to find something that you like so that you keep on doing it, and these things can change with age.

Scheduling events (I used to participate in running and biathlon (running/biking) forces you to train to do well.

It is all good.

I'm in shape, round is a shape...
I don't have a 6 pack, but I have a uni-ab:happybanana:.
It's not what's on the outside, but what's in the inside that counts .
Just a few that I use, feel free to borrow them boys:yes:.
Personally I keep my 6 pack in a cooler...

Matt can tell you how strong my Doc Al Hybrid runs ... but it is a real concoction of parts!

It has and Asian case, tank holder and main bearings, a 12mm 044 crank, a heavily ported 046-D cylinder and a modified Husky piston that requires 2 base gaskets to obtain the correct squish! Doc Al did a heck of a job on it, and it pulls a 28" full comp chain like a mule!
He makes a strong saw ,

It is difficult to stay in shape and keep your weight down as you get older and life gets busy, but it is important.

In addition to staying active, everyone should have a brief daily exercise routine that includes stretching and range of motion exercises.

Also, and I know it is not popular on this site but try and eat healthy. Low fat, more fruit and vegetables.

I plan to be around for my grandkids for a long time, and that includes sleigh riding, hiking and hunting.

Two things my Dad used to say: 1) Bet on the lean horse in the long race. 2) Mother Nature gives you the first 40 years, after that you had better work on it.

My Dad did white collar work (he was a Lawyer and Licensed Public Accountant), but after dinner every day he went into the basement and did his exercises. My brother and I still marvel at how strong he was even at 69 when we built his house. He could load 80 lb bags of cement into the mixer all day long, and we worked long days back then!
All that you said is the truth.

Time for my public service announcement

Get your colonoscopy when your doctor starts telling you it’s time, currently that’s in your 40s.

My first one at about 70 found stage 4 colon cancer, almost two years ago. It could have been caught as polyps if I had it done earlier. I was probably about to but put it off a little longer to deal with some other issues, some mine and some my wife’s, and the Covid hit, another delay.

Treatment is keeping it down and will probably be getting a section of colon removed soon. Surgeon is going to take a look in two weeks, via another colonoscopy, to see what he thinks. I call it a “colon-disconnect-omy “.
Wishing you the best with your issues. The medical field has come a long way with cancer treatments this past year.

Thanks! We needed it this morning. The morning started off pretty well. We were pretty optimistic that we were gonna get our limits but the wind switched direction and the fish shut off at 10AM. Couldn't buy a bite. We kept ten nice ones and threw back 20-30 little ones. View attachment 1210595
That's a good feed right there! Perch are seriously underrated table fare, at least where I'm from. Folks around here are more concerned with taking home as many juvenile brook trout as they are allowed (and sometimes more) and then they wonder why there are never any big ones in the stream lol.

I will be looking for some jumbos like those come hardwater season. Until then, I'll continue spending countless hours on the water questioning my sanity, waiting for one of these big girls to finally decide it's dinner time. 20240930_141925.jpg

Enjoyed everyone's aurora borealis pics. Of course, the one night I decided "too much screen time today, do something else" Unbeknownst to me, it was visible right outside my garage as I was busy at reorganizing bottles of oil and solvents. Pretty happy with how the shelving unit looks now though :D

I was in bed when it was suppose to be happening.

Well a guy has to have his priorities. Organized oil must be yours.

My go to , got 7 on ya chipper, and get more sleep buddy, 👍
Nice.
Like I tell my wife; I work hard, I play hard, and I rest hard, don't interrupt any of them ;).
If equipment is involved its pretty much play time for me.

What's the right type of exercise for me, the one you'll do.
I tell people similar in regards to buying equipment, if you have nice equipment, you'll be much more likely to run it(lawnmower for example), it sucks to run junk equipment. I really wish I would've realized at a younger age how much I enjoy running equipment.
I really enjoy biking (more trails) motorcycling off road, and downhill skiing, great workouts and you aren't really focusing on the fact that you're getting a workout, much like processing firewood.

It's rare to see them as far south as central IL and they were suppose to be visible last night. I knew this, but got side tracked and went to bed early. Missed them.

Daughter got good pictures of it in Mobile, AL. All I saw here in N WI was a very faint purplish. no cell fone pic showed anything. Similar to Lee192233 posted, but not near as good.
