My brother (Matt's Dad) is (among other things) and engineer (PE). He was responsible for a parking lot project in Peekskill NY.

When he tested it, he determined they used the wrong grade of concrete for an elevated parking lot. He made them rip it all up and re-do it. They were furious, but it is now done right!

He also designed the water runoff system into the Hudson, which eliminated decades of flooding. He was tasked with doing the near impossible ... making water go uphill! He designed a system that uses water from a larger stream to develop a venturi that sucks the water from the smaller stream uphill.

A lot of the businesses down there treat him like he walks on water, as they had been dealing with flooding for decades!
That's great.

The city engineer for our town couldn't flow water downhill if his life depended on it. Worthless just like the city administrator.

Ummm, water flows downhill whether an engineer is involved or not. And many engineers seem to forget that simple fact. It's what I got a degree in.... Holy Cow, 41 years ago now.

Boy my old boss would throw me under the bus in a heartbeat if he was buddy buddy with a contractor etc.
I was the on site set of eyes to keep tabs on contractors and the shenanigans they are always trying to pull. A flooring contractor on a 100k project got about 30' of a border line crooked as can be. He apparently saw me notice it because when I brought the big boss in to look at it, conveniently all of their tools and materials had been moved on the the area of poor Craftsmanship. The big boss turned a blind eye to the situation so informed admin I had made my last trip over there to inspect progress on that job, and I would not be giving approval on money draws or final approval before paying the contractor.
The part that set me off was when the lead guy on the crew smarted off and said the job would go quicker if I'd stay out of there. My coward boss would not respond to the comment so I washed my hands of the whole job.
Maybe your scummy boss was taking kickbacks.

Minty 346XP OE , arrived today, anyone who knows or run these, knows what they’re all about,
The original 346XP is,a 46cc saw with no primer bulb. The 346XP New Edition came with a 50cc motor and a primer bulb. I never owned the early saw but have had 3 of the NE saws. For a small saw it can rip thru wood. I should have kept one of my 346XPNE saws. I sold my last two after buying a 2nd Gen 550XP.

Unless you are smart enough to construct a working venturi.

The venturi effect over the wings of an airplane enables it to fly. It is also what draws the fuel into a carburetor. The fuel pump just pumps to the fuel bowl. The level of the fuel bowl is determined by the floats, just like in a toilet.

If it can lift an airplane, it can lift some water!

To make it do something other than go downhill takes an intervention. Gravity sock, some sort of pumping device, indeed, your venturi effect. My point was if all you need it to do is flow downhill, an engineer may be unnecessary. Hence, supporting svk's estimate of their City Engineer's level of usefulness.

My 346xp oe, is one of the saws that the kids will get rid of after I die. Cut a lot of wood with it at one point of my life.

Influence of Bernoulli’s Principle

"However, Bernoulli’s Principle, which is closely related to Torricelli’s Law, plays a crucial role in the operation of carburetors. Bernoulli’s Principle states that the pressure of a fluid decreases as its velocity increases. In a carburetor, the Venturi effect creates a region of low pressure, which draws fuel from the float bowl into the airflow. This is achieved by shaping the venturi to create a sudden contraction in the airflow, resulting in an increase in velocity and a corresponding decrease in pressure."

Torrecelli theorized that we are surrounded in a "sea of air" and that if you put a tube in water, and evacuated it, the water would rise about 30'. That sounds familiar if you have worked with jet pumps or other low lift pumps. After proving this was true, he then surmised that mercury in a vacuum tube would only rise about 32", again, depending on elevation and other conditions. He proved this, also, then noted that the mercury level changed with weather conditions. A barometer.

Both Bernoulli and Torrecelli contributed a lot to fluid dynamics.

Nice saw, so what are they all about :innocent:.
Good thing you got those big ole dual dogs 😜.

A late model "first gen" 550 smokes a 346, and your "second gen" does too, unfortunately they added so much weight to it you may as well grab a 60cc saw, then you're so close to a 462 you may as well...

Here we go again with the weight thing.
