Are you working in the barn now, is it all sealed up tight.
I need to get this bay door on, then a fee much smaller things and I can heat the main bay. Pretty excited about that, and all the more about getting the sub-panel hooked up so I can run the lift and welders. I most likely will need to do a bit of welding to get the bay door mounted, but I've got a lot more strengthening to do to it before that. Should be done some time next yr lol.

Yep, more or less sealed up. The big door has some cheap Amazon self adhesive door seal flap stuff on it. Actually works better then I thought it would, for as cheap as it is. Insulation is more or less as good as it's getting for this winter. I'd like to add more everywhere, but I think the ceiling is going to take priority for getting a second layer first.
Progress has been slow otherwise. Since hunting season, I have not done much out there. Between the holidays and work schedule its been very slow.
I did come up with a jointer (I think you can just see it in the background of the dog Pic.) Old craftsman unit, my logging buddy found. I got that cleaned up Monday after work, wired in an on-off switch and started jointering (?) The boards for the little room. Hopefully I'm ready to start hanging them this weekend.

Pretty cool.
I won a big chunk of it at a gtg for firewoodhoardersclub. One Of the guys brought it up, I think he said yellow pine that was used for telephone poles. I've hardly used any, my go to is a little propane torch.

I use a little torch to start my fires too. Even have a special little hole to stick it in, in the house furnace where I don't have to hold it lol.

This was the best hunting dog (and smartest dog) I ever had. I'm 18 in this picture, that is my new Remington 870 and my first grouse.

I got Rex for free from a hotdog vendor. He told me the owner of his mom (a Shepard) moved to Florida. I'm sure he was a mutt, but don't know what was in him.

I never trained Rex to hunt, he just knew what to do. When we hunted squirrels, he would chase them up a tree, then go to the far side and bark till the squirrel circled to my side. It was so easy, I quite doing it. The grouse went down in a swampy area and was not fully dead. Rex ran out and retrieved it, did not put a mark on it, brought it back and dropped it at my feet. (all without any training or commands, he just knew what to do).

When I tell people who train hunting dogs about him, they just turn and walk away from me.

Your story brings back old memories of our giant 33 pound long haired Dachshund we owned back in the 1980's into the 90's. She too was never trained to hunt. We bought her when she was a puppy. One morning I came home from my 3rd shift job and decided to go bird hunting. My wife asked if I was taking the dog with me. I laughed and said NO, she is not a bird dog. I grabbed my shotgun to head out back and the dog went ballistic. She was barking and running around our kitchen and dining room like a nut. My wife and I were shocked. I took the dog out back and came back empty handed. She wouldn't stay close and was pushing Grouse out way too far ahead of me. The next day we went out and she stayed close. We came home with 2 Grouse. She found both of them after I shot them. She dropped them at my feet. The next time we went out I sat her down at the edge of a thicket and told her to stay. I went around the other side and yelled at her to fetch the birdies. I could hear her going back and forth. Two Grouse came out right at me. I dropped both of them. We hunted for around 10 years like that. She always got the innards when I field stripped them. Our first day out each season was a waste of time as she was too hyped up to listen. After that she would settle down and get down to business. One day I shot a pheasant. She went to pick it up and the Pheasant pecked her in the face. My dog ripped its head right off. Then she picked up the bird and carried it over to me. I had to stop hunting with her due to an over excited kidney from way too much exercise. After she passed I tried to find another giant Dachshund. The breeder had stopped raising them and we couldn't find one anywhere near us. We never did find a dog to replace her talents. Our pure bred Chocolate Lad Sporter that we had to put down a few years ago had no intentions or inklings to hunt anything. She wouldn't even chase a rabbit, squirrel, chipmunk or bird in our yard. I'm not sure if I want to try the new puppy at hunting. If he has the same excitement as our Dachshund had when she saw my shotgun I'll give him a try at it.

As I was walking the father in-law to his truck (my old Colorado) I was patting the bed side and telling him how much the truck probably enjoys his ownership over mine. He told me something that made my day

I can tell that he is always a little off because my wife does so much for him and it probably makes him feel a little awkward.

But tonight when it was just the two of us, he thanked me for the truck. Told me how much he appreciates it and the fact that it’s automatic and not stick like his last one. And that nobody had ever given him something like that before.

I know he had thanked me before, but he really put some big effort into tonight’s “talk”

Made me feel pretty good to know he truly appreciated it.

I’m sure it’s gotta be tough being the parent and not being in the best financial position. Having his kid help him out the way Ericka always is.

I never have a problem with it, because God knows I wasn’t always in a good position, but I had good friends and family that were there to lift me up when I needed it.

Management can be VERY taxing, this summer will make 10years for me. The best advice I can tell you to pass along to your son. Find an outlet and DON’T take things personally. Customers and employees can drive you crazy!!! My mentor warned me a long time ago, “The hardest thing in life is making a living through other people”

PS, Alcohol is NOT a good outlet…..

I can say you are 100% correct in this. At my work a number of the supervisors/managers take their jobs way too seriously/personally to the point they "live to work" and only think or worry about work to the point where they are having health issues as posted about earlier or are hard to deal with and have no outlet. Many times I've said at work "this place isn't worth killing yourself for it" but I'm also dealing with people that this is the only place they've worked at ever or have been there for years (it's located in a small town of about 800 people in a rural area). Thankfully my position at work I can (to a point) choose how much I want to interact with other people or who I interact with at work which is nice because I can avoid the ones I don't want to be around. One time I was told my "I don't care" attitude wasn't a good one I replied with "as long as the person who signs my paycheck (the company owner) thinks I'm doing a good job that's the only opinion that matters". At work I try to get along with as many as I can but there's some I've let them know the best way I can I don't care for them and let's just do the "leave each other alone" thing.

I thought I'd share a couple photos of the saw rack I built yesterday for my pickup. I think it will work quite well!
Yup, that's a Husky. A modified 390XP gifted to me from my last boss I worked for over on Afognak Island a couple years ago. One can never pass up a free saw! Even if it is a Husky. However, it's Stihl no Stihl!

That drill index is like my father’s… he had a set of number bits and a set of fractional bits. They are about 70 years old now. I saw them recently in the shop.

I do have an affinity for drill indexes - I think this is the only number drill index I have though. Not that you can't get by without them, but for the investment it's worth it if I only ever use it one time.

The best bargain was probably the pipe threading tools. Tough to beat for about $3 all in. Oh, and the Lodge cast iron - but only because I can flip those and more than pay for the rest of the stuff.

Hardwood Noodles, covered with birch bark, covered with small kindling ... gets the fire going fast every time!

I'm thinking of making some wax coated noodles ... that would really work nicely!

I've used the hardwood noodles before, as well as soft, and they work nice. I made up a bunch of bags of them, my wife uses them in the chicken coop under where they sleep and lay eggs, and the one chicken nests.
Back when I was a kid my dad and I cast a lot of bullets, he'd get the pot up to temp, then shave a little wax off a bar and drop it in, I think he then lit it, then scraped the crap off the top. It was a long time ago, and I have no idea what the actual purpose was or if it helped, guessing he was getting the dross off the top and it helped somehow.

Nice, I've got quite a bit of insulation in the walls most the way around. I cut 8' strips of 1/2 foil faced polyiso that fit between the trusses(two pieces per run, so 1" total) for the ceiling of the main and I have some cellulose insulation to blow up there whenever I get a min, probably closer to spring, or next fall lol. Hopefully down the rd I can add more, but you gotta start somewhere, and since the walls are all enclosed I started there to get things finished or at least more finished. My schedule has been all over the place, being in retail, holidays mean very little; then when you're on the trucking side of it, they mean nearly nothing. Except double pay, which is nice!
I noticed that in the pic. You're getting closer to having another big chunk finished.

I was inspired to get out the ole resinous wood today to get a fire going, so I did.
Split up a bit for the top of this pile of BL sticks.

This is the piece I took that stuff off from, I have another much bigger chunk of it that this came off.

Still used the torch to light them though .
Man was that stuff smoking, my neighbors probably thought I was burning insulation scraps.

Early in his career my father served a tool and die apprenticeship and worked as a journeyman at IBM. He used those bits to make a living in the days IBM actually made things!
