@snobdds that’s hunting there, the farm…

Well we sit in blinds or stands and just wait for the deer to walk out at dawn or dusk

Get steady and take your shot

We don't use stands or blinds out here.

I use to drive a 1988 Toyota 4x4 at the ranch and just hop out when I saw something. The last time we took an animal off the ranch was about 15 years ago when the old lady was bugging me to take her hunting. She took both of these standing in the back of the old truck while I drove. The wyoming way...

The other thing that just baffles me is this notion of "hunting camps". We don't do camps out here. My dad and I built a cabin about 10 years ago in the middle of national forest on some land we own. My dad likes to hunt in the forest so we go every year. It's just him and I and the dogs. We don't have a bunch of people come up. I wouldn't know what to do if a bunch of people wanted to come up, but everyone just does their own thing here. There is enough national forest where everyone has enough space for their own camps. It's just totally different out here...

Yeah, they're a pretty neat bird to have around and at the same time can be a pain in the ass. Especially when they start banging on your aluminum gutters.
One time cutting wood near a tree stand a woodpecker was banging away on the ladder of the tree stand. Surprised it didn't knock itself out with how it was pecking away at that ladder. Sometimes it fun to just sit and watch stuff like that.

You guys hunt funny back east.

My mom forbid any wild game in the house and we had to donate all wildgame to the salvation army.

I just never developed a taste for wild game.

Now I let the neighbor run cattle on the meadows to keep the grass in good shape. I just go out and pick the cow I want every year.

However, we do some waterfowl hunting on the lake...I will shoot a geese or two each year.

I'd take well cooked(not well done) venison over beef any day. I know who's handled it from the day it was killed. Now if I could go pick a steer from the pasture that'd be different.

Try sitting all day in a stand in 20° weather with a 20 mph wind blowing in your face. That'll test your ability to handle suffering.

You could lose your gun/bow, your truck and the animal if you did that here in WI. You need to be 50 feet off the centerline of the right of way.
Nice animals!

Hunting camps here in WI are a result of the short 9 day rifle season. People had their 40 or 80 and went up for the whole season.

This book is a great read if you're interested...Screenshot_20241120-175831_Google.jpgThe deer season used to be a religion here. Schools and businesses shut down, churches had special deer hunting services before the season and communities had big opening day meals for all the hunters in the area.
Unfortunately that's mostly gone by the wayside with the long seasons and the fact that everyone is so busy. There's also lots less deer since wolves were reintroduced in the 90s.

If we weren’t the same age, I’d ask you to adopt me 🤣🤣

Was in Wyoming once, 1997 summertime, lived out of my pack for a week backpacking

Have wanted to go back since!

Beautiful country and GREAT fishing!!

Turkeys deer or apples ? :)

Edit : chipper1 beat me to it
Turkeys

On another note my dump cart got an overhaul this week. I replaced all the rotted plywood with new solid Redwood stained exterior plywood. It sure looks great now compared to before.

I hunt for deer every year, and hopefully get one or two, but not always.

I butcher it myself, make as many steaks from it as possible, and make chunks out of the rest.

My wife's parents were very good friends with a couple that owned a well-known local steakhouse. (for those who are local, Parise Steakhouse in Thornwood). They gave my wife a marinate recipe for the venison. My venison is never tough or gamy.

Venison is leaner than chicken or beef and has more B vitamins and Omega 3. I'll take it any day of the week. Cook it rare and it is delicious and very healthy.

I usually like grilling it over some Black Cherry but also have some Black Birch in this fire.

Yeah, I have 75,000 acres and that is considered small in Wyoming.

When my dad and I go out hunting, it's too easy. We don't even shoot anything anymore. We just enjoy the wildlife now.

It's a huge departure from when I was young and took my little 4wheeler out with my .22 and shot anything that moved. I joke with my dad that I had my hunting bug out of me by the age of 18.
Do you need an accountant, mechanic and 3 day laborers? My family could fill all those roles!😁

That turned out really nice.
You can use it for firewood and deer, maybe even turkeys and apples too lol.
I did some mods on my 14' trailer earlier this week .

Also finally found some metal insulated panels to build my bay door with. Sure hope 4" of insulation is enough lol. Maybe I can have a usable door by next month, trying to stay focused on the ceiling and then the south wall where it meets the ceiling (so I can finish that portion of the ceiling, then the west wall between the main bay and the lean-to (yes, I said it again ;)). Working around the lift is gonna be fun, I was gonna ask my buddy who helped me set it up if he'll help me take it down for a day 😆.

If the game is that plentiful, why would you bother to raise cattle??? Sounds like Mother Nature would do it for you!

I have too much grass and if I don't use it, it turns to weeds. My grandfather was the rancher, I make my money from other things. I was never into being a cowboy and neither was my father. Now my neighbor is a real cowboy and he runs about 30k head on my land in the summer. Him and my grandfather were good friends so I just let him use the grass for free as a thank you for helping my grandfather in his later years.

It goes on for miles and miles...

My sister moved up to the Rochester area in nothern NY. It was my first time being there this past memorial day. I was in utter shock about how beautiful it was there. Her inlaws have a lake house on one of the finger lakes, lake chucka, and it was great. The thing that I was astonished by was the amount of houses on that lake. There was not a piece of lake front property that did not have a house on it. It was wild to me, considering my lake has nothing on it, expect a little dock we use to take out a little boat.

But man, upstate NY was great.

Absolutely beautiful.
Never been out to that part of the country, or the far NE, but seen most the rest. Wouldn't mind making it up there this summer or next, the kids are getting older and it's a lot of fun going on trips with them. BIL is in Colorado so that was an option for last summer, but we opted for the hills of TN instead as it was a bit closer.
I like your avatar 😆.

Have several Turkeys in the freezer now . Going to get one out and into the fridge to thaw for thanksgiving. I’ll do a farm turkey too not everyone likes wild turkey .

My good friend lives in Steamboat CO and was sponsered by a snowboard company called Libtech. They make snowboards, so he painted his "log truck" with their name.

I **** you not, he would go out to where they were logging and would have them put a log on top of his car, as you can see in the picture. We would then cut it up for his firewood in the winter. In the rear seat is an old Stihl 041. He was a bit crazy.
