Gonna hit my xbow spot behind my house. I’ve laid off that spot for a few weeks, maybe the 9pt I have on camera will show up. Even though it’s rifle season, it’s a little to “urban” for me to be using a rifle on a Sunday morning

If you dry brine the turkey it will come out well. The leg will always be a little tough but the thighs come out fairly tender and moist

A guy I used to let hunt on our land gave me 2 turkey legs. I soaked them in Morton's cure for a week or so. Then smoked them on the weber. best turkey I ever had. If y'all were closer, I'd take all your turkey legs. It takes a while to eat a turkey leg, but they are tasty when smoked.

One of my friends works in a shop that does mostly mostly light/medium duty trucks and vans, municipal, police, fire, ems, and refuse. He's said over the past few years there has been a big swing away from the diesels back to gas engines. Cheaper to work on, usually pretty reliable for the length of time they are kept. Said the 8.1L chevy engine and the Ford 7.3L has basically become a mainstay for the truck and van based chassis they work on. Said one of the municipal refuse companies has nearly completely switched to natural gas engine to get away from the emission/ after treatment problems they have with the diesels. It's not so far to believe school busses wouldn't follow suite, makes perfect sense these days.

Diesels now are electronic toys. Same as the gassers, but more expensive. Not like the old days with reliable mechanical fuel injection. When the smoke comes out, it is dead.

There are several reasons tractors like IH 1066 through 1486 are popular, along with 4020 through 4430 or so JDs. Mechanical fuel injection is one reason.

Finally found the small coolant leak I've been smelling for a while now. Stupid thing had a pin hole right in the middle of the radiator. One tiny little hole.

You could give her the old farmer fix. Take a small screw, coat it with JB weld and run it in the tiny hole.

I had a buddy whose grandpa did that in the water jacket of their old Ford 7000. He had at least 5 screws in the crankcase of that engine. He'd notice coolant in the oil, drain the coolant, drop the pan and run another screw in it. I think they put 4-5k hours on it after the first screw went in.

I've been a heavy duty diesel mechanic for the past 20 years, I can only partially agree with that statement. Electronic injection has been out since the mid 90's. Really hasn't gotten much more complicated over the years. High pressure common rail, unit injection, HEUI injection has all been around a really long time. No, none of them will take garbage fuel and lack of maintenance, with few exceptions. (cp4 fuel pump.) I've worked on machines with thousands of hours and original injection systems.
Most our calls are from emissions issues or machine system issues. Thank a congressman and the epa for the emission systems. The machine issues I blame on the end users. If they didn't want the features the oem wouldn't offer it. Sadly the few of us that don't want the bells and whistles are the minority these days.

Good idea. I could possibly do that to get by till I get a new radiator and rad support for it.

Couldn't agree more. Give me work grade vinyl and rubber floors. Standard radio. Manual transfer case. I've gotten softer and wouldn't want to go without A/C but I've probably owned as many vehicles without as with. Don't think that's even an option to delete anymore. I've never bought a new truck and probably never will so it's a compromise of what I can find at a good price. Such is life.

I hope everyone has had a great fall. I don't post here much but do check in pretty regular. It is good to see some normality in today's world. It's been beautiful this autumn here. Very mild and dry, although that's recently changed. Gave me a lot more time than usual to get things packed up for winter and a few extra projects I didn't think I'd get to until next year.



We also got a new family member this summer. My wife found him down the road, caked in mud, half dead from the heat. This was the day she brought him home, after several baths. He was so happy to have a place to eat and sleep that's all he did for the first week. Its not the first stray we have found. There is an abandoned rail way 1/4 mile down the road that seems to be a popular spot to dump off unwanted animals. People suck.


On the bright side, Bo (our older lab) has a buddy. He is showing Luke the ropes. My wife rolled her eyes when I came up with the name

I can get by just fine without A/C just fine for my daily commute and running around close to home. Driving truck for a living without A/C is a whole different story. Same with heated mirrors.

The boy & I did well for gun deer opener. This was his first hunt an he did a great job. Took his time & didn't rush it. One shot.
Oh yeah... And for the "you suck" factor, we were done by 9am.

I've never owned a new truck, but have spec'd out a lot for trucks over the years. Bare bones trucks are hard to get outside of fleet/municipal options. Even then there's a lot of fancy stuff we didn't need that you couldn't get rid of. The 19 5500 dodge ended up with a touch screen, chrome front bumper and alloy wheels after adding the upfitter prep package and plow package. None of which we really wanted or needed. Power windows and ac were standard.
It's a trend with everything though, when's the last time you saw an cheap econo-box compact car? No one makes one these days. It's all frills and gizmos that you don't really need, which all adds to the expense of the vehicle.

Thanks for giving Luke a home and a chance. We've found that strays and rescues make good companions - I swear I think they appreciate the better life they've been offered. And yes, sometimes people do suck, especially when they treat animals poorly.

I once passed on a very good deal on a very low mileage factory original '68 428 Mustang GT because it was NOT a fastback!

Likely that was a mistake, because that was a very rare car, but all my classic Mustangs were fastbacks!

If I only had more money (back then) and garage space (even now) I would have one heck of a Ford collection!

Thanks for giving Luke a home and a chance. We've found that strays and rescues make good companions - I swear I think they appreciate the better life they've been offered. And yes, sometimes people do suck, especially when they treat animals poorly.

Unfortunately our home has been a bit of a revolving door for strays. Both cats and dogs. Most we will house until we find them a good home. We have kept one cat and now Luke. Kitty has been a huge factor in getting the chipmunk population under control.

We found this rottie earlier in the summer. We always post something up on social media to try and find the rightful owner. Havent found one yet and we have rescued a bunch. Rottie was a real sweet heart. Went to a nice young family just before we found Luke.

Great find on the Lab. I wish that I could find a stray like that.
