I hate the friggin scabbard.

Why the low slung bad 70's western gunslinger type holster for this great saw:confused:

This scabbard was clearly NOT made for arborists. It is made for Mr. Miyoggi, the Japanese gardener who hooks it to his belt and walks around pruning. It is not designed to attach to an arborist's saddle.

I just use my old tried and true rubberized scabbard.

silky Ibuki scabbard

My Ibuki scabbard has broken at the attachment point where the flexible material meets the plastic scabbard.
One other climber I know has had this happen.
Any others?
I went back to my custom made leather scabbard works just fine.
sure is a great saw though...

IBUKI: Japanese for heavy saw

I just got my first Zubat the other day. The scabbard looked kinda funky, so I just used the belting scabbard I already had. Works fine, I don't think I'll ever use the thing.

Anyone wanna buy it? Cheap?

I'm hoping my Zubat lives up to all the hype given it. Sure, its sharp, but all new blades are sharp. I'm waiting to see if it stays sharp, making the $36 replacement blade worth it. I don't care for the squishy-feeling handle that much. I'll probably get used to that. Or do a little drilling to make it fit a wooden handle.
It NO WAY replaces my 200.

Has anyone else noticed how it sounds different than a regular blade when you make a cut?

I had one scabbard last me 11 months, and it had a lot of life left. It needed to be replaced because IT GOT STOLEN:eek:

Ask anyone that works with me...I do a lot of handsawing and avoid the MS200T whenever possible.

FWIW, I have converted my scabbard to a leg scabbard by sewing in velcro straps. The top one is screwed under the metal plate on the scabbard, and the bottom on has elastic on the back and it just slides on. I love it!

I am also careful when I put it in, and after a few months, I apply a coat of epoxy to the worn parts so that I then wear away the epoxy and not the plastic.

Send me your unused scabbards!!!! All of you, please!!!

Dang, I'd take another Silky scabbard but my cousin Nick beat me to it...

I converted to leg scabbard too. My scabbard is on it's third blade. Getting a little chewed up in the corner now.

See you all this week!

Tom

Use any other handsaw please.

I actually caught my "groundie" going to use my Zubat. HEY...wait a minute ...I said thats MY handsaw!!
I use my old leather leg scabbard too..so the you Zubat scabbard is just hanging around.
MB has a handsaw...WOW( anyway I saw a pic where he had one on his harness)

Tape over the screw and to keep the jiont from rotatinf and it's not that bad of a scabbard.

I've had too many of those old types get cut from inserting the saw blind.

Yeah, I cut of that whole screw/bolt/buckle/strap thingy. It's unneccesary for a leg scabbard.

Tom, if I get some extra scabbards from these fellows, I'll definately share. One lasts me a long time. I was thinking if I had back-ups, I wouldn't have to be quite as careful when putting mine away...as long as I don't Silky my leg:eek:

John, it's gets a little thick with the tofu-jokes, but I'm not complaining. Hay muchos chocheros y jaqatueros aqui!

My Zubat is on my calf. The scabbard is 14 months and going strong. I am on my second blade. I use elastic straps with velcro. The ones for sleeping bags. A buck a pair and last about 9 months.

I bought 2 of them in the summer and within a week they both broke in that same spot. I rigged it up with some duct tape and it kind of works alright.
