i don't like a grinder at all, i personally don't think they get your chain as sharp but thats me. plus they leave little stones in your chain, ever notice that after your chain has been sharpend with a grinder how next time you take a file to it your file just seems to ''skip'' over the cutter without removeing anything????
 
i've been meaning to ask about that

i have seen "specific" tools and jigs on the market for certain saws, or is it chain type maybe

anyhow, say i want to jump in and learn to field sharpen a chain,

and since it will frequently be rip chain, i don't mind spending 30

minutes to do it , if a clean cut takes an hour less to sand/

what might be my best option ?

i agree, temps in the 50's with the leaves turnin is hard to beat !!
